Yahweh Saves in Times of Trouble

1 Oh (C1)give thanks to Yahweh, for (C2)He is good,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.

2 Let (C1)the redeemed of Yahweh say so,
Whom He has (C2)redeemed from the hand of the adversary

3 And (C1)gathered from the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the (F1)south.

4 They (C1)wandered in the wilderness along the way of the wasteland;
They did not find an inhabited (C2)city.

5 Hungry (F1)and thirsty,
Their (C1)soul fainted within them.

6 Then they (C1)cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He delivered them out of their distresses.

7 He led them by a (F1)(C1)straight way,
To go to (C2)an inhabited city.

8 (C1)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His wondrous deeds to the sons of men!

9 For He has (C1)satisfied the (F1)thirsty soul,
And the (C2)hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

10 There were those who (C1)inhabited darkness and the shadow of death,
(C2)Prisoners in affliction and irons,

11 Because they had (C1)rebelled against the words of God
And (C2)spurned the (C3)counsel of the Most High.

12 So He subdued their heart with labor;
They stumbled and there was (C1)none to help.

13 Then they (C1)cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.

14 He (C1)brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death
And (C2)broke their bands apart.

15 (C1)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His wondrous deeds to the sons of men!

16 For He has (C1)shattered the doors of bronze
And cut through the bars of iron.

17 (F1)Ignorant fools, because of their way of transgression,
And (C1)because of their iniquities, were afflicted.

18 Their (C1)soul abhorred all kinds of food,
And they (C2)reached the (C3)gates of death.

19 Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.

20 He (C1)sent His word and (C2)healed them,
And (C3)provided them escape from their (F1)destructions.

21 (C1)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His wondrous deeds to the sons of men!

22 Let them also offer (C1)sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And (C2)recount His works with joyful singing.

23 Those who (C1)go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on many waters;

24 They have seen the works of Yahweh,
And His wondrous deeds in the deep.

25 He (C1)spoke and set up a (C2)stormy wind,
Which (C3)raised up the waves (F1)of the sea.

26 They went up to the heavens, they went down to the depths;
Their soul (C1)melted away in the (F1)calamity.

27 They staggered and (C1)swayed like a drunken man,
And all their wisdom was swallowed up.

28 Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.

29 He (C1)caused the storm to stand still,
So that its waves were hushed.

30 Then they were glad because they were quiet,
So He led them to their desired haven.

31 (C1)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His (C2)wondrous deeds to the sons of men!

32 Let them (C1)exalt Him also (C2)in the assembly of the people,
And (C3)praise Him at the seat of the elders.

33 He (F1)(C1)makes rivers into a (F2)wilderness
And springs of water into a thirsty ground;

34 A (C1)fruitful land into a (C2)salt waste,
Because of the evil of those who inhabited it.

35 He (C1)makes a wilderness into a pool of water
And a dry land into springs of water;

36 And there He causes the hungry to inhabit,
So that they may establish (C1)an inhabited city,

37 And sow fields and (C1)plant vineyards,
And produce a fruitful harvest.

38 Also He blesses them and they (C1)multiply greatly,
And He (C2)does not let their cattle decrease.

39 But when they (C1)decrease and are (C2)bowed down
Through oppression, evil, and sorrow,

40 He (C1)pours contempt upon nobles
And (C2)makes them wander (C3)in a pathless void.

41 But He (C1)sets the needy (F1)securely on high away from affliction,
And (C2)makes his families like a flock.

42 The (C1)upright see it and are glad;
But all (C2)unrighteousness shuts its mouth.

43 Who is (C1)wise? Let him keep these things,
And carefully consider the (C2)lovingkindnesses of Yahweh.
