Do Not Forget the Afflicted

^1 (F1)Why ^(C1)do You stand afar off, O Yahweh?
Why ^(C2)do You hide ^(F2)Yourself in times of distress?

² In his ^(C1)lofty pride the wicked ^(F1)hotly pursues the afflicted;
^(F2)Let them be ^(C2)caught in the thoughts which they have devised.

³ For the wicked ^(C1)boasts of his ^(C2)soul's desire,
And ^(F1)the greedy man curses and ^(C3)spurns Yahweh.

⁴ The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, ^(C1)does not seek Him.
All his ^(F1)thoughts are, "^(C2)There is no God."

⁵ His ways ^(F1)(C1)prosper at all times;
Your judgments are on high, ^(C2)out of his sight;
As for all his adversaries, he snorts at them.

⁶ He says in his heart, "^(C1)I will not be shaken;
^(F1)From generation to generation ^(C2)I will not be in adversity."

⁷ His ^(C1)mouth is full of curses and deceit and ^(C2)oppression;
^(C3)Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness.

⁸ He sits in the ^(F1)(C1)places of the villages where one lies in wait;
In the hiding places he ^(C2)kills the innocent;
His eyes ^(F2)stealthily watch for the ^(F3)(C3)unfortunate.

⁹ He lies in wait in a hiding place as ^(C1)a lion in his ^(F1)lair;
He ^(C2)lies in wait to catch ^(C3)the afflicted;
He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his ^(C4)net.

¹⁰ He ^(F1)crouches, he ^(F2)bows down,
And the ^(F3)unfortunate fall ^(F4)by his mighty ones.

¹¹ He ^(C1)says in his heart, "God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it."

¹² Arise, O Yahweh; O God, ^(C1)lift up Your hand.
^(C2)Do not forget the afflicted.

¹³ Why has the wicked ^(C1)spurned God?
He has said in his heart, "You will not require it."

¹⁴ You have seen it, for You have beheld ^(C1)mischief and vexation to ^(F1)take it into Your hand.
The ^(F2)(C2)unfortunate commits himself to You;
You have been the ^(C3)helper of the orphan.

^15 (C1)Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
^(F1)(C2)Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

¹⁶ Yahweh is ^(C1)King forever and ever;
^(C2)Nations have perished from His land.

¹⁷ O Yahweh, You have heard the ^(C1)desire of the ^(F1)humble;
You will ^(C2)strengthen their heart, ^(C3)You will cause Your ear to give heed

¹⁸ To give justice to the ^(C1)orphan and the ^(C2)oppressed,
So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause ^(C3)terror.
