Cross-References
Jehovah is the God of gods; Jehovah is the God of gods! He knows, and Israel shall know, if it is in rebellion, and if it is in treachery against Jehovah, you shall not save us alive today.
And you, if you walk before me as your father David walked, in singleness of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you; you shall keep My statutes and My judgments;
I pray to You, O Jehovah, please remember how I have walked always before your face in truth, and with a perfect heart, and I have done the good in Your eyes. And Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.
And I know, my God, that You try the heart and are pleased with uprightness; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have offered willingly all these things; and now I have watched with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly toYou.
You said , I am pure, without transgression; I am clean and no iniquity is in me;
Jehovah will judge the people. O Jehovah, judge me according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity on me.
He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity and has not sworn deceit.
Let purity and uprightness keep me, for I wait on You.
I will wash my hands in innocency; so I will go around Your altar, O Jehovah,
Surely I have purified my heart in vain; and I have washed my hands in innocence.
Gill's Notes on the Bible
And they reasoned with themselves,.... Or "they thought with themselves", as the Syriac version; or "within themselves", as the Vulgate Latin, though they did not express it; or "one with another", as the Arabic version; they took counsel together, and debated the matter among themselves, and reasoned after this manner:
saying, if we shall say from heaven; which was what, in their own consciences, they believed to be true,
he will say, why then believed ye him not? in what he said concerning the Messiah; which if they had, as they should, there would have been no reason for such a question they had put;
