1 When Athaliah,(C1) Ahaziah’s mother,(C2) saw that her son was dead,(C3) she proceeded to annihilate all the royal heirs.
1 Now when `Atalyah the mother of Achazyah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

1 Athaliah was Ahaziah's mother. She saw that her son was dead, so she got up and killed all the king's family.

Athaliah Reigns over Judah
1 Now when Athaliah, Ahaziah's mother, saw that her son was dead, she set about to destroy all the royal family.
1 Now, when, Athaliah, mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
1 Now Athalia, the mother of Ochozias, seeing that her son was dead, arose and slew all the royal seed.
1 Now when Athali'ah the mother of Ahazi'ah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family.
1 And Athaliah [is] mother of Ahaziah, and she has seen that her son [is] dead, and she rises, and destroys all the seed of the kingdom;1-3 Athaliah was the mother of Ahaziah. When she saw that her son was dead, she took over. She began by massacring the entire royal family. But Jehosheba, daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah's son Joash and kidnapped him from among the king's sons slated for slaughter. She hid him and his nurse in a private room away from Athaliah. He didn't get killed. He was there with her, hidden away for six years in The Temple of God. Athaliah, oblivious to his existence, ruled the country.

So he was hidden from Athaliah and was not killed. 2 But Yehosheva, the daughter of king Yoram, sister of Achazyah, took Yo'ash the son of Achazyah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were slain, even him and his nurse, [and put them] in the bedchamber; and they hid him from `Atalyah, so that he was not slain;
2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took (c)Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and she put[a] him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus they[b] hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not put to death. 2 But Jehosheba, King Jehoram's daughter and Ahaziah's sister, took Joash, Ahaziah's son. She stole him from among the other sons of the king who were about to be murdered. She put Joash and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah, so he was not killed. 2 So Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah's son Joash and sneaked him away from the rest of the royal descendants who were to be executed. She hid him and his nurse in the room where the bed covers were stored. So he was hidden from Athaliah and escaped execution. 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram of Judah and half sister of Ahaziah, (C1)took Joash the son of Ahaziah and abducted him from among the king's sons who were to be killed, and hid him and his nurse in the (F1)bedroom. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not put to death.2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, (C1)took Joash the son of Ahaziah and abducted him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not put to death.2 But Iehosheba the daughter of King Ioram, & sister to Ahaziah tooke Ioash the sonne of Ahaziah, and stale him from among the Kings sonnes that shoulde be slaine, both him and his nource, keeping them in the bed chaber, & they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slaine.2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, (C1)took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not put to death. 2 but Jehosheba rescued Joash son of Ahaziah just as he was about to be murdered. Jehosheba, who was Jehoram's[a] daughter and Ahaziah's half sister, hid her nephew Joash and his personal servant in a bedroom in the Lord's temple where he was safe from Athaliah. 2 But Y'hosheva the daughter of King Yoram, sister of Achazyah, took Yo'ash the son of Achazyah and stole him away from among the princes who were being slaughtered. She took him and his nurse, sequestered them in a bedroom, and hid them from ‘Atalyah, so that he was not killed.
2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, the sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, [and hid] him and his nurse in the bedchamber; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
2 Jehosheba was King Joram's daughter and Ahaziah's sister. Joash was one of the king's sons. While the other children were being killed, Jehosheba took Joash and hid him. She put him and his nurse in her bedroom, so Jehosheba and the nurse hid Joash from Athaliah. That way Joash was not killed.2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the kings sons who were slain; and she hid him and his nurse in her bedchamber; thus she hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. 2 Only Ahaziah's son Joash escaped. He was about to be killed with the others, but was rescued by his aunt Jehosheba, who was King Jehoram's daughter and Ahaziah's half sister. She took him and his nurse into a bedroom in the Temple and hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not killed. 2 But Jehosheba the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah took Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, and she stole him from among the sons of the king who were being put to death, putting him and his nurse in the inner bedroom. So they hid him from the presence of Athaliah, and he was not killed. 2 But Jehosheba the daughter of King Jehoram, the sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons who were put to death, him and his nurse, in the sleeping room. And they hid him from the face of Athaliah, and he was not killed.2 But Ioseba kynge Iorams doughter the syster of Ochosias, toke Ioas the sonne of Ochosias and stale him awaye with his norse in the chamber from amonge the kynges children which were slayne, and she hyd him from Athalia, so that he was not slayne. 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, even him and his nurse, [a]and put them in the [b]bedchamber; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain; 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, secretly took Joash, the son of Ahaziah, with the woman who took care of him, away from among the king's sons who were put to death, and put him in the bedroom; and they kept him safe from Athaliah, so that he was not put to death.2 But Iehosaba the daughter of king Ioram and syster of Ahaziahu, toke Ioas the sonne of Ahaziahu, and stale him from among the kinges sonnes that were slayne, and his nurse with him in the bedde chamber: and hyd him from Athalia, that he was not slayne.2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, even him and his nurse, and put them in the bed-chamber; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.2 But Iehosheba the daughter of king Ioram, sister of Ahaziah, tooke Ioash the sonne of Ahaziah, and stale him from among the Kings sonnes which were slaine; and they hid him, euen him and his nurse in the bed-chamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slaine. 2 And Josabee daughter of king Joram, sister of Ochozias, took Joas the son of her brother, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were put to death, secreting him and his nurse in the bedchamber, and hid him from the face of Gotholia, and he was not slain. 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons that were slain, even him and his nurse, [and put them] in the bedchamber; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. 2 But Jehosheba daughter of King Joram(a), the sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered. She stole him away from the king's sons who were being killed, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. They hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed. 2 But Jehosheba, King Joram's daughter, Ahaziah's sister, took Joash son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's children who were about to be killed; she put[a] him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus she[b] hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not killed; 2 But Jehosheba daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were being slain - him and his nurse, into the bedchamber, - so she hid him from the face of Athaliah, that he was not slain.2 But Josaba the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ochozias, took Joas, the son of Ochozias, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, out of the bedchamber with his nurse: and hid him from the face of Athalia; so that he was not slain.2 But Jehosh'eba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahazi'ah, took Jo'ash the son of Ahazi'ah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. Thus she hid him from Athali'ah, so that he was not slain;2 and Jehosheba daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, takes Joash son of Ahaziah, and steals him out of the midst of the sons of the king who are put to death, him and his nurse, in the inner part of the bed-chambers, and they hide him from the presence of Athaliah, and he has not been put to death,2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, (C1)took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and placed him and his nurse in the bedroom. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not put to death.3 Joash was in hiding with her in the Lord’s temple six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.
3 He was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years. `Atalyah reigned over the land.3 And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land. 3 And he remained with her six years, hidden in the house of the Lord, while Athaliah reigned over the land. 3 He hid with her in the Temple of the Lord for six years. During that time Athaliah ruled the land. 3 He hid out with his nurse in the Lord's temple for six years, while Athaliah was ruling over the land.3 Joash was hidden with his nurse in the house (temple) of the LORD for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
3 So he was kept hidden with her in the house of the LORD for six years, while Athaliah was reigning over the land.3 And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord sixe yeere: and Athaliah did reigne ouer the land.3 So he was hidden away with her in the house of Yahweh six years, while Athaliah was reigning over the land. 3 Joash hid in the temple with Jehosheba[b] for six years while Athaliah ruled as queen of Judah. 3 He remained hidden with his nurse in the house of Adonai for six years; during this time ‘Atalyah ruled the land.3 And he was with her hid in the house of Jehovah six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.
3 Then Joash and Jehosheba hid in the Lord's Temple. Joash hid there for six years. During that time Athaliah ruled over the land of Judah.3 And he was hidden with her in the house of the LORD six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land. 3 For six years Jehosheba took care of the boy and kept him hidden in the Temple, while Athaliah ruled as queen. 3 He remained with her in the temple of Yahweh, hidden for six years while Athaliah was reigning over the land.3 And he was with her in the house of Jehovah, hiding himself six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.3 And he was hyd with her in the house of the LORDE sixe yeares. But Athalia was quene in the londe. 3 And he was with her hid in the house of Jehovah six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.3 And for six years she kept him safe in the house of the Lord, while Athaliah was ruling over the land.3 And he was with her hyd in the house of the Lord sixe yeres: And Athalia dyd raigne ouer the lande.3 And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years; and Athaliah reigned over the land. 3 And he was with her hidde in the House of the Lord, sixe yeeres: and Athaliah did reigne ouer the land. 3 And he remained with her hid in the house of the Lord six years: and Gotholia reigned over the land.3 And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land. 3 And Joash remained hidden with his nurse in the house of the LORD for six years while Athaliah ruled the land.

And Athalia reigned over the land.3 and he remained with her six years, hid in the house of the LORD, while Athali'ah reigned over the land.3 and he is with her, in the house of YHWH, hiding himself, six years, and Athaliah is reigning over the land.3 So he was hidden with her in the house of the LORD six years, while Athaliah was reigning over the land.
Athaliah Overthrown
4 In(C1) the seventh year, Jehoiada(C2) sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards.(C3) He had them come to him in the Lord’s temple, where he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
4 In the seventh year Yehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Kari and of the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD; and he made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shown them the king's son.
4 And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the king's son.

4 (d)But in the seventh year (e)Jehoiada sent and brought the captains of (f)the Carites and of the guards, and had them come to him in the house of the Lord. And he made a covenant with them and put them under oath in the house of the Lord, and he showed them the king's son.
4 In the seventh year Jehoiada sent for the commanders of groups of a hundred men, as well as the Carites.[a] He brought them together in the Temple of the Lord and made an agreement with them. There, in the Temple of the Lord, he made them promise loyalty, and then he showed them the king's son.
4 In the seventh year Jehoiada summoned the officers of the units of hundreds of the Carians and the royal bodyguard. He met with them in the Lord's temple. He made an agreement with them and made them swear an oath of allegiance in the Lord's temple. Then he showed them the king's son.
4 (C1)Now in the seventh year Jehoiada the priest, Jehosheba's husband sent for the captains of hundreds of (C2)the (F1)Carites and of the guard and brought them to him to the house of the LORD. Then he made a covenant with them and put them under oath in the house of the LORD, and showed them the king's hidden son.
4 (C1)Now in the seventh year Jehoiada sent orders and brought the captains of hundreds of (C2)the Carites and of the (F1)guards, and brought them to himself at the house of the LORD. Then he made a covenant with them and put them under oath at the house of the LORD, and showed them the king's son.
4 And the seuenth yeere Iehoiada sent & tooke the captaines ouer hundreths, with other captaines and them of the garde, & caused them to come vnto him into the house of the Lord, & made a couenant with them, and tooke an othe of them in the house of the Lorde, and shewed them the Kings sonne.
4 (C1)Now in the seventh year Jehoiada sent for and took the commanders of hundreds of (C2)the Carites and of the (F1)guard, and brought them to him in the house of Yahweh. Then he cut a covenant with them and had them swear in the house of Yahweh, and showed them the king's son.
Jehoiada Makes Joash King of Judah
4 Joash son of Ahaziah had hidden in the Lord's temple six years. Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada the priest sent for the commanders of the king's special bodyguards[c] and the commanders of the palace guards. They met him at the temple, and he asked them to make a promise in the name of the Lord. Then he brought out Joash 4 In the seventh year Y'hoyada summoned the captains of hundred-man platoons, of both the Kari and the guard. He brought them into the house of Adonai, made an agreement with them and had them swear to it in the house of Adonai. Then he showed them the king's son
4 And in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains of the hundreds, of the bodyguard and the couriers, and brought them to him into the house of Jehovah, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of Jehovah, and shewed them the king's son.
4 In the seventh year Jehoiada the high priest sent for the captains of the Carites[a] and guards.[b] He brought them together in the Lord's Temple and made an agreement with them. There in the Temple of the Lord he forced them to make a promise. Then he showed the king's son to them.
4 And in the seventh year Jehoiada the priest sent and brought the captains of hundreds and the guards and the runners, and had them come to him into the house of the LORD and stationed them there, and made a covenant with them and took an oath of them and showed them the kings son.
4 But in the seventh year Jehoiada the priest sent for the officers in charge of the royal bodyguard and of the palace guards, and told them to come to the Temple, where he made them agree under oath to what he planned to do. He showed them King Ahaziah's son Joash
4 But in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and took the commanders of the hundreds of the Carites and the runners, and he brought them to himself to the temple of Yahweh. Then he made[a] a covenant with them and made them swear in the house of Yahweh and showed them the son of the king.
4 And in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent and called the rulers of the hundreds, with the Carites and the runners. And he brought them to him into the house of Jehovah, and cut a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of Jehovah.And he revealed the king's son to them.
4 Neuertheles in the seuenth yeare sent Ioiada, and toke the rulers ouer hudreds with the captaynes and fote men, and caused the to come to him in to the house of the LORDE and made a couenaunt with them, and toke an ooth of them in the house of the LORDE, and shewed them the kynges sonne,
4 And in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the [c]Carites and of the [d]guard, and brought them to him into the house of Jehovah; and he made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of Jehovah, and showed them the king's son.

Revolt against Athaliah
4 In the seventh year of Athaliah's reign, Jehoiada the priest summoned the commanders, the Carite mercenaries, and the palace guards to come to the Temple of the Lord. He made a solemn pact with them and made them swear an oath of loyalty there in the Lord's Temple; then he showed them the king's son.
4 In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the captains of hundreds, men who watch over the king and the soldiers. He brought them into the house of the Lord, and made an agreement with them. He had them make a promise in the house of the Lord. Then he showed them the king's son.
Jehoiada Anoints the Child Joash
4 But in the seventh year Jehoiada summoned the captains of the Carites and of the guards and had them come to him in the house of the Lord. He made a covenant with them and put them under oath in the house of the Lord; then he showed them the king's son.

4 In the seventh year Jehoiada sent for the captains of the bodyguards and the Palace Security Force. They met him in The Temple of God. He made a covenant with them, swore them to secrecy, and only then showed them the young prince.

A third of you who go on duty on the Sabbath will guard the king's palace. 5 He ordered them, "This is what you must do. Kill anyone who tries to break through your ranks. Your job is to stay with the king at all times and places, coming and going."5 He commanded them, saying, "This is the thing that you shall do: (C1)one third of you, who come in on the sabbath and keep watch over the king's house6 A third are to be at the Foundation(F1) Gate and a third at the gate behind the guards. You are to take turns providing protection for the palace.(F2)(C1)
6 A third part shall be at the gate Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall you keep the watch of the house, and be a barrier.6 And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down. 6 ((h)another third being at the gate Sur and a third at the gate behind the guards) shall guard the palace.[c] 6 A third of you will be at the Sur Gate, and another third will be at the gate behind the guard. This way you will guard the Temple. 6 Another third of you will be stationed at the Foundation Gate. Still another third of you will be stationed at the gate behind the royal guard.
