Remember the Scripture that says, "A matter becomes clear after two or three witnesses give evidence"? On my second visit I warned that bunch that keeps sinning over and over in the same old ways that when I came back I wouldn't go easy on them. Now, preparing for the third, I'm saying it again from a distance. If you haven't changed your ways by the time I get there, look out. You who have been demanding proof that Christ speaks through me will get more than you bargained for. You'll get the full force of Christ, don't think you won't. He was sheer weakness and humiliation when he was killed on the cross, but oh, he's alive now—in the mighty power of God! We weren't much to look at, either, when we were humiliated among you, but when we deal with you this next time, we'll be alive in Christ, strengthened by God.

A Final Word

¹ This will be my third time coming to see y'all. Don't forget, if someone has a complaint about someone else, there's got to be at least two or three other cowboys who can testify to the truth of it. ² I gave a warning when I was present the second time, and now I give a warning^(C1) while I am absent to those who sinned before and to all the rest: If I come again, I will not be lenient, ² I told you before, and foretell you as if I were present the second time, and being absent, now I write to them which heretofore haue sinned, and to all other, that if I come againe I will not spare:

He is not weak or ineffective in dealing with you, but ^(C3)powerful within you.³ since you are ^(C1)seeking for proof of the ^(C2)Christ who speaks in me, and who is not weak toward you, but ^(C3)mighty in you.³ since you are ^(C1)seeking proof that ^(C2)Christ speaks in me; He is not weak toward you, but ^(C3)mighty in you.³ since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. ³ This should prove to you that I am speaking for Christ. When he corrects you, he won't be weak. He will be powerful! ³ since you are looking for proof of the Messiah speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but he is powerful among you.

³ Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, (who is not weak towards you, but is powerful among you, ³ You want proof that Christ is speaking through me. My proof is that he is not weak in dealing with you but is showing his power among you.³ Seeing that ye seeke experience of Christ, that speaketh in mee, which towarde you is not weake, but is mightie in you.³ Since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, he has never been weak among you, but is mighty in you. ³ You will have all the proof you want that Christ speaks through me. When he deals with you, he is not weak; instead, he shows his power among you. ³ since you are demanding proof that Christ, who is not weak toward you, but is powerful among you, is speaking in me. ³ since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who is not weak toward you, but is powerful in you, ³ seeing that ye seek a proof of Christ that speaketh in me; who to you-ward is not weak, but is powerful in you: ³ Seeing that you are looking for a sign of Christ giving out his word in me; who is not feeble in relation to you, but is strong in you:³ seeing that you seek a proof of Messiah that speaks in me; who toward you is not weak, but is powerful in you. ³ since you want proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you but is making his power felt among you.[xr] ³ Inasmuch as you demand the proof of the Meshiha who speaketh in me, (of) Him who is not weak among you, but is mighty among you:³ because ye demand proof, that it is the Messiah that speaketh by me, who hath not been powerless among you, but powerful among you.³ Seyng yt ye seeke experience of Christe which speaketh in me, which to you ward is not weake, but is mighty in you.³ seeing that ye seek a proof of Christ that speaketh in me; who to you–ward is not weak, but is powerful in you: ³ seeing that you seek a proof of Christ that speaks in me; who toward you is not weak, but is powerful in you. ³ Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who is not weak toward you, but powerful among you.³ since you want a practical proof of the fact that Christ speaks by my lips--He who is not feeble towards you, but powerful among you.³ Whether ye seken the preef of that Crist, that spekith in me, which is not feble in you?³ seeing that you seek a proof of Christ that speaks in me; who toward you is not weak, but is powerful in you:³ Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who toward you is not weak, but is mighty in you. ³ since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak toward you but is powerful among you. ³ since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you.

³ I will give you all the proof you want that Christ speaks through me. Christ is not weak when he deals with you; he is powerful among you. ³ Since you want to know, I will prove to you that Christ speaks through me. Christ is not weak when He works in your hearts. He uses His power in you. ³ since you desire proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful in you. ³ Since, a test, ye are seeking, of the speaking in me of Christ; - who, unto you, is not weak, but is powerful in you, - ³ Do you seek a proof of Christ that speaketh in me, who towards you is not weak, but is mighty in you?³ since you desire proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful in you.³ seynge yt ye seke experience of Christ which speaketh in me which amoge you is not weake but is myghty in you.³ since a proof ye seek of the Christ speaking in me, who to you is not infirm, but is powerful in you,³ since you seek a proof of the Christ speaking in me, who is not weak to you, but is powerful in you,³ seynge that ye seke experiece of him, which speaketh in me, euen Christ, which amonge you is not weake, but is mightie amoge you.³ since you demand a proof of my mission from Christ, who with regard to you has shown no want of power among you. ³ If you need proof that Jesus speaks through me, you'll get it when he deals with you when I arrive. You'll sure enough see his power then. ⁴ For he was crucified^(C1) in weakness, but he lives^(C2) by the power of God. For we also are weak in him,^(C3) but in dealing with you we will live^(C4) with him by God’s power.

⁴ For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you. ⁴ For ^(h)he was crucified in weakness, but ⁽ⁱ⁾lives by the power of God. It is also true that we share his weakness, but in dealing with you, we will be alive in him by God's power.⁴ For though hee was crucified concerning his infirmitie, yet liueth hee through the power of God. And wee no doubt are weake in him, but we shall liue with him, through the power of God towarde you.⁴ For though Jesus was crucified through weakness, yet he lives by the power of God. As we are weak with him, so we are alive with him by the power of God who is among you. ⁴ For even though it was in weakness that he was put to death on the cross, it is by God's power that he lives. In union with him we also are weak; but in our relations with you we shall share God's power in his life. ⁴ For indeed, he was crucified because of weakness, but he lives because of the power of God. And though we are weake in him, yet lyue we with him in the power of God amonge you.⁴ for tho' he was crucified with the appearance of weakness, yet he lives by the power of God; tho' we are afflicted upon his account, we shall live with him by the power of God toward you. ⁴ He might have been nailed to a cross while he was weak, but now he rides with the full power of God. We are not different. We may be weak now, but when it comes to dealing with y'all, we will have God's full power at our disposal.

⁵ Test^(C1) yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves. Or do you yourselves not recognize that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless you fail the test.^{(F1) 5} Examine your selues, whether ye be in the faith: proue your owne selues. Know yee not your owne selues, how that Iesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

⁵ Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

⁵ Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. ^(l)Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that ^(m)Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

Excepte ye be cast awayes.⁵ Examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith; bring yourselves to the proof; are you so little acquainted with yourselves, as not to know whether Jesus Christ be in you? but if you are destitute of proofs, ^5-9 Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don't drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. I hope the test won't show that we have failed. But if it comes to that, we'd rather the test showed our failure than yours. We're rooting for the truth to win out in you. We couldn't possibly do otherwise.

We don't just put up with our limitations; we celebrate them, and then go on to celebrate every strength, every triumph of the truth in you. We pray hard that it will all come together in your lives.

⁵ So I suggest you test yourselves to see if your faith is true. If you don't realize Jesus lives in you now then you have failed the test. ⁶ And I hope you will recognize that we ourselves do not fail the test. ⁶ But I trust that yee shall knowe that we are not reprobates.

⁶ But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. ⁶ I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test.⁶ But I expect that you will realize that we ourselves ^(F1)do not fail the test. ⁶ But I hope you will see that we ourselves have not failed the test. ⁶ But I hope you will acknowledge that we do not fail the test nor are we to be rejected.⁶ But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves ^(F1)do not fail the test.⁶ But I hope that you will realize that we ourselves ^(F1)do not fail the test.⁶ And I hope you will realize that we have not failed the test. ⁶ I hope you will discover that we have not failed. ⁶ But I hope you will realize that we are not failures.

⁶ Now I hope that ye will know that *we* are not reprobates.
