Josiah’s Passover Observance

1 Josiah observed the Lord’s Passover(C1) and slaughtered the Passover lambs on the fourteenth day of the first month.(C2)

1 Yoshiyahu kept a Pesach to the LORD in Yerushalayim: and they killed the Pesach on the fourteenth [day] of the first month.

1 Moreover Josiah kept a passover unto the Lord in Jerusalem: and they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.

Passover Is Celebrated

1 Josiah commanded that Passover be celebrated in Jerusalem to honor the Lord. So, on the fourteenth day of the first month,[a] the lambs were killed for the Passover celebration.

1 Then Josiah announced that the Passover of the Lord would be celebrated in Jerusalem, and so the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the first month.[a]

1 And Josiah makes a Passover to YHWH in Jerusalem, and they slaughter the Passover-offering on the fourteenth of the first month,1-4 Josiah celebrated the Passover to God in Jerusalem. They killed the Passover lambs on the fourteenth day of the first month. He gave the priests detailed instructions and encouraged them in the work of leading worship in The Temple of God. He also told the Levites who were in charge of teaching and guiding Israel in all matters of worship (they were especially consecrated for this), "Place the sacred Chest in The Temple that Solomon son of David, the king of Israel, built. You don't have to carry it around on your shoulders any longer! Serve God and God's people Israel. Organize yourselves by families for your respective responsibilities, following the instructions left by David king of Israel and Solomon his son.

The Passover Observed Again

1 Then Josiah (C1)celebrated the Passover to the LORD in Jerusalem, and (C2)they slaughtered the Passover animals on the fourteenth day of the first month.2 He appointed the priests to their responsibilities and encouraged them to serve in the Lord’s temple.(C1) 2 He set the Kohanim in their offices, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD.

2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the Lord, 2 He appointed the priests to their offices (c)and encouraged them in the service of the house of the Lord. 2 Josiah chose the priests to do their duties, and he encouraged them as they served in the Temple of the Lord. 2 He appointed the priests to fulfill their duties and encouraged them to carry out their service in the Lord's temple. 2 He appointed the priests to their positions and (C1)encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.2 He appointed the priests to their offices and (C1)encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.2 He set the priests in their offices, and encouraged them to the service of the house of Yahweh. 2 And he appointed the Priestes to their charges, and incouraged them to the seruice of the house of the Lord,2 And he caused the priests to stand in their responsibilities and (C1)strengthened them in the service of the house of Yahweh.2 He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.

2 On that day, Josiah made sure the priests knew what duties they were to do in the temple. 2 He assigned the cohanim to their posts and encouraged them to perform the service of the house of Adonai.

2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of Jehovah. 2 Josiah chose the priests to do their duties. He encouraged the priests while they were serving in the Lord's Temple.2 And he set the priests in their charges, and appointed them over the service of the house of the LORD, 2 He assigned to the priests the duties they were to perform in the Temple and encouraged them to do them well. 2 And he set the priests at their posts and encouraged them in the service of the house of Yahweh. 2 And he made the priests stand over their charges, and made them strong for the service of the house of Jehovah,2 and set the prestes in their offices, and strengthed them to their mynistracion in the house of the LORDE, 2 And he set the priests in their offices, and encouraged them to the service of the house of Jehovah. 2 And he gave the priests their places, making them strong for the work of the house of God.2 And he set the priestes in their offices, and ayded them in the seruice of the house of the Lorde,2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD. 2 And hee set the Priestes in their charges, and encouraged them to the seruice of the house of the Lord, 2 And he appointed the priests at their charges, and encouraged them for the services of the house of the Lord. 2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD. 2 and he ordeynede prestis in her offices; and he comaundide hem for to mynystre in the hows of the Lord.2 And he set the priests in their offices, and encouraged them to the service of the house of Yahweh.2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD,2 And he set the priests in their duties and encouraged them for the service of the house of the LORD. 2 Josiah also assigned the priests to their duties and encouraged them in their work at the Temple of the Lord. 2 He gave the religious leaders their duties and gave them strength to do the work of the Lord's house. 2 He appointed the priests to their offices and encouraged them in the service of the house of the Lord. 2 And he set the priests over their charges, - and encouraged them unto the service of the house of Yahweh;2 And he set the priests in their offices, and exhorted them to minister in the house of the Lord.2 He appointed the priests to their offices and encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.2 and he stationeth the priests over their charges, and strengtheneth them for the service of the house of Jehovah,2 and he stations the priests over their charges, and strengthens them for the service of the house of YHWH,2 He set the priests in their offices and (C1)encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.3 He said to the Levites who taught all Israel(C1) the holy things of the Lord, “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. Since you do not have to carry it on your shoulders,(C2) now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel.

3 He said to the Levites who taught all Yisra'el, who were holy to the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Shlomo the son of David king of Yisra'el did build; there shall no more be a burden on your shoulders: now serve the LORD your God, and his people Yisra'el.

3 And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the Lord, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the Lord your God, and his people Israel, 3 And he said to the Levites (d)who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, "Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. You need not carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 3 The Levites taught the Israelites and were made holy for service to the Lord. Josiah said to them, "Put the Holy Ark in the Temple that David's son Solomon, the king of Israel, built. Do not carry it from place to place on your shoulders anymore. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 3 He told the Levites, who instructed all Israel about things consecrated to the Lord, "Place the holy ark in the temple which King Solomon son of David of Israel built. Don't carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel! 3 To (C1)the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD he said, "Put the holy ark in the house (temple) which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; (C2)it shall not be a burden carried on your shoulders any longer. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.3 He also said to (C1)the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the LORD, "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; (C2)it will not be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.3 He said to the Levites who taught all Israel, who were holy to Yahweh, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; there shall no more be a burden on your shoulders: now serve Yahweh your God, and his people Israel. 3 And he sayd vnto the Leuites that taught all Israel and were sanctified vnto the Lorde, Put the holy Arke in the house which Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel did build: it shalbe no more a burden vpo your shoulders: serue now the Lord your God and his people Israel,3 He also said to (C1)the Levites who provided understanding to all Israel and who were holy to Yahweh, "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; (C2)it will be a burden on your shoulders no longer. Now serve Yahweh your God and His people Israel.3 To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD, Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel. 3 He called together the Levites who served the Lord and who taught the people his laws, and he said:

No longer will you have to carry the sacred chest from place to place. It will stay in the temple built by King Solomon son of David, where you will serve the Lord and his people Israel. 3 To the L'vi'im who were teaching all Isra'el and were holy for Adonai he said, "Put the holy ark in the house which Shlomo the son of David, king of Isra'el, built; after this, you will not have to carry it again. Now serve Adonai your God and his people Isra'el.

3 And he said to the Levites, that taught all Israel, [and] who were holy to Jehovah, Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built; ye have not to carry it upon your shoulders. Serve now Jehovah your God, and his people Israel; 3 He spoke to the Levites who taught the Israelites and who were made holy for service to the Lord. He said to the Levites, "Put the Holy Box in the Temple that Solomon built. Solomon was David's son. David was king of Israel. Don't carry the Holy Box from place to place on your shoulders again. Now serve the Lord your God and his people, the Israelites.3 And he said to the Levites who dwelt in all Israel. Sanctify yourselves to the LORD, and put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; for you have no longer to carry it upon your shoulders; serve now the LORD your God and his people Israel, 3 He also gave these instructions to the Levites, the teachers of Israel, who were dedicated to the Lord: "Put the sacred Covenant Box in the Temple that King Solomon, the son of David, built. You are no longer to carry it from place to place, but you are to serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 3 And he said to the Levites who were teaching all Israel, who were sanctified to Yahweh, "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. There is no need to carry it on your shoulders. Now serve Yahweh your God and his people Israel. 3 and said to the Levites who were teaching all Israel, who were sanctified to Jehovah, Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David the king of Israel built; it shall not be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve Jehovahyour God, and His people Israel,3 and sayde vnto the Leuites that taughte in all Israel, and were sanctified vnto ye LORDE: Put the holy Arke in the house that Salomon ye sonne of Dauid kynge of Israel dyd buylde. Ye shal beare it nomore vpon youre shulders. Se that ye serue now the LORDE youre God, and his people of Israel, 3 And he said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, that were holy unto Jehovah, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; there shall no more be a burden upon your shoulders. Now serve Jehovah your God, and his people Israel; 3 And he said to the Levites, the teachers of all Israel, who were holy to the Lord, See, the holy ark is in the house which Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel, made; it will no longer have to be transported on your backs: now be the servants of the Lord your God and his people Israel,3 And sayd vnto the Leuites that taught all Israel, and were sanctified vnto the Lorde: Put the holy arke in the house whiche Solomon the sonne of Dauid king of Israel dyd buylde, it shalbe no more a burden vpon your shoulders: But now serue the Lord your God, and his people Israel:3 And he said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, that were holy unto the LORD: 'Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; there shall no more be a burden upon your shoulders; now serve the LORD your God, and His people Israel.3 And said vnto the Leuites, that taught all Israel, which were holy vnto the Lord, Put the holy Arke in the house, which Solomon the sonne of Dauid king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden vpon your shoulders: serue now the Lord your God, and his people Israel. 3 And he told the Levites that were able to act in all Israel, that they should consecrate themselves to the Lord: and they put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built: and the king said, Ye must not carry anything on your shoulders: now then minister to the Lord your God, and to his people Israel. 3 And he said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; there shall no more be a burden upon your shoulders: now serve the LORD your God, and his people Israel. 3 And he spak to the dekenes, at whos techyng al Israel was halewid to the Lord, Sette ye the arke in the seyntuarie of the temple, which Salomon, kyng of Israel, the sone of Dauid, bildide; for ye schulen no more bere it. But now serue `youre Lord God and his puple Israel,3 And he said to the Levites that taught all Israel, that were holy to Yahweh, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; there shall no more be a burden on your shoulders: now serve Yahweh your God, and his people Israel.3 And said to the Levites that taught all Israel, who were holy to the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; [it shall] not [be] a burden upon [your] shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,3 Then he said to the Levites who taught all Israel, who were holy to the LORD: "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. It shall no longer be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel. 3 He issued this order to the Levites, who were to teach all Israel and who had been set apart to serve the Lord: "Put the holy Ark in the Temple that was built by Solomon son of David, the king of Israel. You no longer need to carry it back and forth on your shoulders. Now spend your time serving the Lord your God and his people Israel. 3 And he said to the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, "Put the holy box of the agreement in the house which Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. You do not need to carry it on your shoulders any longer. Now work for the Lord your God and His people Israel. 3 He said to the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, "Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon son of David, king of Israel, built; you need no longer carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 3 and said to the Levites who gave instruction to all Israel as to the things which were hallowed unto Yahweh, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon son of David king of Israel did build, it is not yours as a burden on the shoulder, - Now, serve ye Yahweh your God, and his people Israel;3 And he spoke to the Levites, by whose instruction all Israel was sanctified to the Lord, saying: Put the ark in the sanctuary of the temple, which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built: for you shall carry it no more: but minister now to the Lord your God, and to his people Israel.3 And he said to the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the LORD, "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built; you need no longer carry it upon your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and his people Israel.3 and saith to the Levites -- who are teaching all Israel -- who are sanctified to Jehovah, `Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon son of David king of Israel built; it is not to you a burden on the shoulder. `Now, serve Jehovah your God, and His people Israel,3 and says to the Levites who are teaching all Israel, who are sanctified to YHWH, "Put the holy Ark in the house that Solomon son of David, king of Israel, built; it is not a burden on the shoulder to you. Now serve your God YHWH and His people Israel,3 He also said to (C1)the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the LORD, "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; (C2)it will be a burden on your shoulders no longer. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.

4 “Organize your ancestral families(F1) by your divisions(C1) according to the written instruction of King David of Israel and that of his son Solomon.(C2) 4 Prepare yourselves after your fathers' houses by your courses, according to the writing of David king of Yisra'el, and according to the writing of Shlomo his son.

4 And prepare yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son. 4 Prepare yourselves (e)according to your fathers' houses by your divisions, (f)as prescribed in the writing of David king of Israel (g)and the document of Solomon his son. 4 Prepare yourselves by your family groups for service, and do the jobs that King David and his son Solomon gave you to do. 4 Prepare yourselves by your families according to your divisions, as instructed by King David of Israel and his son Solomon. 4 "(C1)Prepare yourselves according to your fathers' (ancestors') households by your divisions, in accordance with (C2)the instructions of David king of Israel, and the instructions of his son Solomon.4 "(C1)Prepare yourselves by your fathers' households in your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel and (C2)according to the writing of his son Solomon.4 Prepare yourselves after your fathers' houses by your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son. 4 And prepare your selues by the houses of your fathers according to your courses, as Dauid the King of Israel hath written, and according to the writing of Salomon his sonne,4 "(C1)So prepare yourselves by your fathers' households in your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel and (C2)according to the writing of his son Solomon.4 Prepare yourselves by your families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David king of Israel and his son Solomon. 4 Get ready to do the work that David and Solomon assigned to you, according to your clans. 4 Organize yourselves by clans and duty divisions according to the arrangement written down by David king of Isra'el and Shlomo his son.

4 and prepare yourselves by your fathers' houses, in your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son; 4 Make yourselves ready for service in the Temple by your tribes. 5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites. 5 And (h)stand in the Holy Place (i)according to the groupings of the fathers' houses of your brothers the lay people, and according to the division of the Levites by fathers' household.

5 "Stand in the holy place with a group of the Levites for each family group of the people. 5 Stand in the sanctuary and, together with the Levites, represent the family divisions of your countrymen. 5 "And (C1)stand in the holy place of the priests according to the sections of the fathers' households of your fellow kinsmen the lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of the families of a father's household.5 "Furthermore, (C1)stand in the holy place according to the sections of the fathers' households of your countrymen, the (F1)lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of a father's household.5 Stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brothers the children of the people, and [let there be for each] a portion of a fathers' house of the Levites. 5 And stande in the Sanctuarie according to the deuision of the families of your brethren the children of the people, and after the deuision of the familie of the Leuites:5 "Moreover, (C1)stand in the holy place according to the sections of the fathers' households of your brothers the (F1)lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of a father's household.5 Moreover, stand in the Holy Place by the divisions of the families of your fellow countrymen, the lay people, and according to the divisions of the houses of the Levites. 5 Divide yourselves into groups, then arrange yourselves throughout the temple so that each family of worshipers will be able to get help from one of you.[b] 5 Stand in the Holy Place according to the divisions of the clans of your kinsmen the ordinary people, with part of a clan of L'vi'im serving each clan [of Isra'el].

5 and stand in the sanctuary for the classes of the fathers' houses, for your brethren, the children of the people, and [according] to the divisions of the fathers' houses of the Levites; 5 Stand in the Holy Place with a group of Levites. Do this for each different tribe of the people so that you can help them.5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of your fathers and of your brethren the people, and after the divisions of the families of the Levites, 5 and arrange yourselves so that some of you will be available to help each family of the people of Israel. 5 And stand in the sanctuary according to the clans of your families[e] for your brothers, the lay people,[f] and a part of the family[g] of the Levites. 5 and stand in the place of holiness, by the divisions of the house of the fathers of your brothers, the sons of the people, and the portion of the house of the father of the Levites;5 and stonde in the Sanctuary after ye course of the fathers houses amonge youre brethren the children of the people, And after the course of the fathers houses amonge the Leuites, 5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brethren the children of the people, [a]and let there be for each a portion of a father's house of the Levites. 5 And take your positions in the holy place, grouped in the families of your brothers, the children of the people, and for every division let there be a part of a family of the Levites.5 And stand in the holy place, according to the deuision of the auncient housholdes of your brethren the children of the people, and after the deuision of the auncient housholdes of the Leuites:5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brethren the children of the people, and [let there be for each] a portion of a father's house of the Levites.5 And stand in the holy place according to the diuisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the diuision of the families of the Leuites. 5 And stand ye in the house according to the divisions of the houses of your families for your brethren the sons of the people; so also let there be for the Levites a division of the house of their family. 5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of your brethren the children of the people, and [let there be for each] a portion of a fathers’ house of the Levites. 5 and serue ye in the seyntuarie bi the meynees and cumpenyes of dekenes,5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brothers the sons of the people, and [let there be for each] a portion of a fathers' house of the Levites.5 And stand in the holy [place] according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and [after] the division of the families of the Levites.5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brethren the lay people, and according to the division of the father's house of the Levites.

5 "Then stand in the sanctuary at the place appointed for your family division and help the families assigned to you as they bring their offerings to the Temple. 5 Stand in the holy place by the family groups of your brothers who are not religious leaders. And let some of the Levites help each family group of the people. 5 Take position in the holy place according to the groupings of the ancestral houses of your kindred the people, and let there be Levites for each division of an ancestral house.[a] 5 and stand ye in the holy place, by the divisions of the ancestral house, for your brethren, the sons of the people, and the partitioning of an ancestral house, for the Levites.5 And serve ye in the sanctuary by the families and companies of Levi.5 And stand in the holy place according to the groupings of the fathers' houses of your brethren the lay people, and let there be for each a part of a father's house of the Levites.5 and stand in the sanctuary, by the divisions of the house of the fathers of your brethren, sons of the people, and the portion of the house of a father of the Levites,5 and stand in the holy place, by the divisions of the house of the fathers of your brothers, sons of the people, and the portion of the house of a father of the Levites,5-6 "Take your place in the sanctuary—a team of Levites for every grouping of your fellow citizens, the laity. Your job is to kill the Passover lambs, then consecrate yourselves and prepare the lambs so that everyone will be able to keep the Passover exactly as God commanded through Moses."5 "Moreover, (C1)stand in the holy place according to the sections of the fathers' households of your brethren the (F1)lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of a father's household.6 Slaughter the Passover lambs,(C1) consecrate yourselves,(C2) and make preparations for your brothers to carry out the word of the Lord through Moses.”

6 Kill the Pesach, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of the LORD by Moshe.

6 So kill the passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses. 6 And slaughter the Passover lamb, and (j)consecrate yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of the Lord by[a] Moses." 6 Kill the Passover lambs, and make yourselves holy to the Lord. Prepare the lambs for your relatives, the people of Israel, as the Lord through Moses commanded us to do." 6 Slaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your countrymen to do what the Lord commanded through Moses."6 "(C1)Slaughter the Passover lambs and (C2)consecrate yourselves, and prepare for your fellow countrymen to carry out (obey) the word of the LORD given by Moses."

6 "Now (C1)slaughter the Passover animals, (C2)keep one another consecrated, and prepare for your countrymen to act in accordance with the word of the LORD by Moses."

6 Kill the Passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of Yahweh by Moses. 6 So kil the Passeouer & sanctifie your selues, and prepare your brethren that they may doe according to the worde of the Lorde by the hand of Moses.6 "Now (C1)slaughter the Passover animals, (C2)sanctify yourselves and prepare for your brothers to do according to the word of Yahweh by the hand of Moses."

6 Slaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your fellow countrymen to carry out the word of the LORD given by(a) Moses.” 6 When the people bring you their Passover lamb, you must kill it and prepare it to be sacrificed to the Lord. Make sure the people celebrate according to the instructions that the Lord gave Moses, and don't do anything to make yourselves unclean and unacceptable. 6 Then slaughter the Pesach lamb, consecrate yourselves, prepare what your kinsmen need, and act according to the word of Adonai given through Moshe."

6 and slaughter the passover, and hallow yourselves, and prepare it for your brethren, that they may do according to the word of Jehovah through Moses. 6 Kill the Passover lambs and make yourselves holy to the Lord. Get ready to help your fellow Israelites. 7 Then Josiah donated thirty thousand sheep, lambs, and young goats, plus three thousand cattle from his own possessions, for the Passover sacrifices for all the lay people who were present.

7 Yoshiyahu gave to the children of the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all of them for the Pesach offerings, to all who were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bulls: these were of the king's substance.
