1 Manasseh is a son of twelve years in his reigning, and he has reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem;1-6 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king. He ruled for fifty-five years in Jerusalem. In God's opinion he was a bad king—an evil king. He reintroduced all the moral rot and spiritual corruption that had been scoured from the country when God dispossessed the pagan nations in favor of the children of Israel. He rebuilt the sex-and-religion shrines that his father Hezekiah had torn down, he built altars and phallic images for the sex god Baal and the sex goddess Asherah and worshiped the cosmic powers, taking orders from the constellations. He built shrines to the cosmic powers and placed them in both courtyards of The Temple of God, the very Jerusalem Temple dedicated exclusively by God's decree to God's Name ("in Jerusalem I place my Name"). He burned his own sons in a sacrificial rite in the Valley of Ben Hinnom. He practiced witchcraft and fortunetelling. He held séances and consulted spirits from the underworld. Much evil—in God's view a career in evil. And God was angry.
Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah in Judah
1 (C1)Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.2 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, imitating the detestable practices of the nations that the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites.(C1) 2 He did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the nations whom the LORD cast out before the children of Yisra'el.
2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to (b)the abominations of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel. 2 He did what the Lord said was wrong. He did the hateful things the nations had done—the nations that the Lord had forced out of the land ahead of the Israelites. 2 He did evil in the sight of the Lord and committed the same horrible sins practiced by the nations whom the Lord drove out ahead of the Israelites. 2 But (C1)he did evil in the sight of the LORD, like the repulsive acts of the pagan nations whom the LORD dispossessed before the sons (descendants) of Israel.2 (C1)He did evil in the sight of the LORD according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD dispossessed before the sons of Israel.2 He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, after the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he did euill in the sight of the Lorde, like the abominations of the heathen, who the Lorde had cast out before the children of Israel.2 (C1)And he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh dispossessed before the sons of Israel.2 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. 2 Manasseh disobeyed the Lord by following the disgusting customs of the nations that the Lord had forced out of Israel. 2 He did what was evil from Adonai's perspective, following the disgusting practices of the nations whom Adonai had expelled ahead of the people of Isra'el.
2 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, like the abominations of the nations that Jehovah had dispossessed from before the children of Israel. 2 Manasseh did what the Lord said was wrong. He followed the terrible and sinful ways of the nations that the Lord had forced out of the land before the Israelites.2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LOAD, according to the works of the nations which the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. 2 (b)Following the disgusting practices of the nations whom the Lord had driven out of the land as his people advanced, Manasseh sinned against the Lord. 2 And he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh according to the detestable things of the nations whom Yahweh drove out before the Israelites.[a] 2 And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, like the abominations of the nations that Jehovah had driven out from before the sons of Israel.2 and dyd that which was euell in the sighte of the LORDE (euen after the abominacions of the Heythen, whom the LORDE expelled before the children of Israel) and turned backe, 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, after the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, copying the disgusting ways of the nations whom the Lord had sent out of the land before the children of Israel.2 But dyd euyll in the sight of the Lorde, like vnto the abhominations of the heathen whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the nations, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.2 But did that which was euil in the sight of the Lord, like vnto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord destroyed from before the face of the children of Israel. 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. 2 Forsothe he dide yuel bifor the Lord bi abhomynaciouns of hethene men, whiche the Lord destriede bifor the sones of Israel.2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, after the disgusting behaviors of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the sons of Israel.2 But did [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, like the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.2 But he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. 2 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, following the detestable practices of the pagan nations that the Lord had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites. 2 He did what was bad in the eyes of the Lord. He did the hated things of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the sons of Israel. 2 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel. 2 And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh,-according to the abominable ways of the nations, whom Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.2 And he did evil before the Lord, according to all the abominations of the nations, which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel:2 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.2 and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, like the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,2 and he does evil in the eyes of YHWH, like the abominations of the nations that YHWH dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,2 (C1)He did evil in the sight of the LORD according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD dispossessed before the sons of Israel.3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had torn down(C1) and reestablished the altars for the Baals. He made Asherah poles, and he bowed in worship to all the stars in the sky and served them. 3 For he built again the high places which Hizkiyahu his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Ba`alim, and made Asherot, and worshiped all the host of the sky, and served them.
3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 For he rebuilt the high places (c)that his father Hezekiah had broken down, and he erected altars to the Baals, and made (d)Asheroth, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 3 Manasseh's father, Hezekiah, had torn down the places where gods were worshiped, but Manasseh rebuilt them. He also built altars for the Baal gods, and he made Asherah idols and worshiped all the stars of the sky and served them. 3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he set up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. He bowed down to all the stars in the sky and worshiped them. 3 For (C1)he rebuilt the idolatrous high places which his father Hezekiah had torn down; and (C2)he set up altars for the Baals and made the (F1)Asherim, and worshiped all the host of heaven the sun, the moon, stars and planets and served them. (VR1)3 For (C1)he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had torn down; (C2)he also set up altars for the Baals and made (F1)Asherim, and he worshiped all the heavenly (F2)lights and served them.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baals, and made Asheroth, and worshiped all the host of the sky, and served them. 3 For he went backe and built the hie places, which Hezekiah his father had broken downe: and he set vp altars for Baalim, and made groues, and worshipped all the hoste of the heauen, and serued them.3 Indeed, (C1)he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had torn down; and (C2)he erected altars for the Baals and made (F1)Asherim, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had torn down, and he raised up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven. 3 He rebuilt the local shrines[a] that his father Hezekiah had torn down. He built altars for the god Baal and set up sacred poles[b] for worshiping the goddess Asherah. And he faithfully worshiped the stars in the sky. 3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hizkiyahu his father had smashed; he erected altars for the ba‘alim, made sacred poles and worshipped all the army of heaven and served them.
3 And he built again the high places that Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshipped all the host of heaven and served them. 3 Manasseh rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had broken down. Manasseh built altars for the Baal gods and made Asherah poles. He bowed down to the constellations[a] and worshiped those groups of stars.3 For he built again the altars which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he built shrines for the idols and made images of leopards, and worshipped them. 3 He rebuilt the pagan places of worship that his father Hezekiah had destroyed. He built altars for the worship of Baal, made images of the goddess Asherah, and worshiped the stars. 3 And he rebuilt[b] the high places that Hezekiah his father broke down, and he set up altars for the Baals, made Asherahs, and bowed down to the host of heaven and served them. 3 For again he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had broken down, and raised up altars for the Baals, and made Asherahs and bowed himself to all the host of the heavens, and served them.3 and buylded the hye places, ( which his father Ezechies had broken downe) and set vp altares vnto Baalim, and made groues, and worshipped all the hoost of heauen, and serued them. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baalim, and made Asheroth, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 For he put up again the high places which had been pulled down by his father Hezekiah; and he made altars for the Baals, and pillars of wood, and was a worshipper and servant of all the stars of heaven;3 For he went to, and buylt the high places whiche Hezekia his father had broken downe: And he reared vp aulters for Baalim, and made groues, and worshipped all the hoast of heauen, and serued them.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baalim, and made Asheroth, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For hee built againe the high places, which Hezekiah his father had broken downe, and he reared vp altars for Baalim, and made groues, and worshipped all the host of heauen, and serued them. 3 And he returned and built the high places, which his father Ezekias had pulled down, and set up images to Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baalim, and made Asheroth, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 And he turnede, and restoride the hiye places, whiche Ezechie, his fadir, hadde destried. And he bildide auteris to Baalym, and made wodis, and worschipide al the knyythod of heuene, and heriede it.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baalim, and made Asheroth, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; he raised up altars for the Baals, and made wooden images; and he worshiped all the host of heaven [fn] and served them. 3 He rebuilt the pagan shrines his father, Hezekiah, had broken down. He constructed altars for the images of Baal and set up Asherah poles. He also bowed before all the powers of the heavens and worshiped them. 3 For he built again the high places which his father Hezekiah had broken down. He built altars for the false gods of Baal and made objects of worship for the false goddess Asherah. He worshiped all the stars of heaven and served them. 3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had pulled down, and erected altars to the Baals, made sacred poles,[a] worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them. 3 And he again built the high places, which Hezekiah his father had thrown down, - and set up altars to the Baalim, and made Sacred Stems, and bowed in prostration unto all the army of the heavens, and served them;3 And he turned, and built again the high places which Ezechias his father had destroyed: and he built altars to Baalim, and made groves, and he adored all the host of heaven, and worshipped them.3 For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezeki'ah had broken down, and erected altars to the Ba'als, and made Ashe'rahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 and he turneth and buildeth the high places that Hezekiah his father hath broken down, and raiseth altars for Baalim, and maketh shrines, and boweth himself to all the host of the heavens, and serveth them.3 and he turns and builds the high places that his father Hezekiah has broken down, and raises altars for Ba‘alim, and makes Asherim, and bows himself to all the host of the heavens, and serves them.3 For (C1)he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; (C2)he also erected altars for the Baals and made (F1)Asherim, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.4 He built altars(C1) in the Lord’s temple, where the Lord had said, “Jerusalem is where my name will remain forever.”(C2) 4 He built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD said, In Yerushalayim shall my name be forever.
4 Also he built altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, (e)"In Jerusalem shall my name be forever." 4 The Lord had said about the Temple, "I will be worshiped in Jerusalem forever," but Manasseh built altars in the Temple of the Lord. 4 He built altars in the Lord's temple, about which the Lord had said, "Jerusalem will be my permanent home." 4 (C1)He built pagan altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "My Name shall be (C2)in Jerusalem forever."4 (C1)He built altars in the house of the LORD of which the LORD had said, "My name shall be (C2)in Jerusalem forever."4 He built altars in the house of Yahweh, whereof Yahweh said, In Jerusalem shall my name be forever. 4 Also he built altars in the house of the Lorde, whereof the Lorde had saide, In Ierusalem shall my Name be for euer.4 (C1)And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, "(C2)In Jerusalem My name shall be forever."4 Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My Name will remain in Jerusalem forever.”

4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 4 Manasseh built altars for false gods in the Lord's Temple. The Lord said about the Temple, "My name will be in Jerusalem forever."4 Moreover he worshipped all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 4 (c)He built pagan altars in the Temple, the place that the Lord had said was where he should be worshiped forever. 4 And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, "In Jerusalem my name shall be forever." 4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem shall be My name forever.4 He buylded altares also in ye LORDES house, wherof the LORDE had sayde: At Ierusalem shal my name be for euer. 4 And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, whereof Jehovah said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 4 And he made altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, In Jerusalem will my name be for ever.4 And he buylt aulters in the house of the Lorde, where as the Lord yet had sayd, In Hierusale shal my name be for euer.4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD said: 'In Jerusalem shall My name be for ever.'4 Also hee built altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had saide, In Ierusalem shall my Name be for euer. 4 And he built altars in the house of the Lord, concerning which the Lord said, In Jerusalem shall be my name for ever. 4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD said, In Jerusalem shall my name be forever. 4 And he bildide auteris in the hows of the Lord, of which the Lord hadde seid, My name schal be in Jerusalem with outen ende.4 And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, whereof Yahweh said, In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.4 He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem shall My name be forever."

Years ago, God had told David and Solomon:
Jerusalem is the place I prefer above all others in Israel. It belongs to me, and there in the temple I will be worshiped forever. 6 He made his children pass through the fire [as a sacrifice] in the Ben-Hinnom Valley. He practiced soothsaying, divination and sorcery; and he appointed mediums and persons who used spirit guides. He did much that was evil from Adonai's perspective, thus provoking him to anger.
6 He also caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom; and he used magic and divination and sorcery, and appointed necromancers and soothsayers: he wrought evil beyond measure in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. 6 He also burned his own children for a sacrifice in the Valley of Ben Hinnom.[b] He also used magic by doing soothsaying, divination, and sorcery.[c] He talked with mediums and wizards.
