2 We always mention you in our prayers, and give thanks to God for you all: 2-5 Every time we think of you, we thank God for you. Day and night you're in our prayers as we call to mind your work of faith, your labor of love, and your patience of hope in following our Master, Jesus Christ, before God our Father. It is clear to us, friends, that God not only loves you very much but also has put his hand on you for something special. When the Message we preached came to you, it wasn't just words. Something happened in you. The Holy Spirit put steel in your convictions.

5-6 You paid careful attention to the way we lived among you, and determined to live that way yourselves. In imitating us, you imitated the Master. Although great trouble accompanied the Word, you were able to take great joy from the Holy Spirit!—taking the trouble with the joy, the joy with the trouble.

7-10 Do you know that all over the provinces of both Macedonia and Achaia believers look up to you? The word has gotten around. Your lives are echoing the Master's Word, not only in the provinces but all over the place. The news of your faith in God is out. We don't even have to say anything anymore—you're the message! People come up and tell us how you received us with open arms, how you deserted the dead idols of your old life so you could embrace and serve God, the true God. They marvel at how expectantly you await the arrival of his Son, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescued us from certain doom.

He loves y'all more than you can ever imagine. 5 because our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit,(C1) and with full assurance. You know how we lived among you(C2) for your benefit, 5 For our Gospel came not vnto you in word onely: but also in power, and in the holy Ghost, and in much assurance, as yee know what maner of men we were among you for your sake.

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 5 because (l)our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and (m)in the Holy Spirit and with full (n)conviction. You know (o)what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.5 for our (C1)gospel did not come to you in word only, but also (C2)in power and in the Holy Spirit and with (C3)full conviction; just as you know (C4)what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sakes. 5 because the Good News we brought to you came not only with words, but with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with sure knowledge that it is true. Also you know how we lived when we were with you in order to help you. 5 for our (C1)gospel did not come to you in word only, but also (C2)in power and in the Holy Spirit and with (C3)full conviction; just as you know (C4)what kind of men we (F1)proved to be among you for your sake.5 for our (C1)gospel did not come to you in word only, but also (C2)in power and in the Holy Spirit and with (C3)full assurance; just as you know (C4)what kind of men we (F1)proved to be among you for your sake.5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake. 5 When we told you the good news, it was with the power and assurance that come from the Holy Spirit, and not simply with words. You knew what kind of people we were and how we helped you. 5 that the Good News we brought did not become for you a matter only of words, but also one of power, the Ruach HaKodesh and total conviction — just as you know how we lived for your sakes when we were with you.

5 For our glad tidings were not with you in word only, but also in power, and in [the] Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what we were among you for your sakes: 5 When we brought the Good News to you, we came with more than words. We brought that Good News with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with the sure knowledge that it was true. Also you know how we lived when we were with you. We lived that way to help you.5 For our Gospell was not vnto you in worde only, but also in power, and in the holy Ghost, and in much assurance, as ye know after what maner we were among you for your sakes.5 For our preaching to you was not in words only, but also in power, and with the Holy Spirit, and with sincere assurance; and you know also how we lived among you for your sakes. 5 For we brought the Good News to you, not with words only, but also with power and the Holy Spirit, and with complete conviction of its truth. You know how we lived when we were with you; it was for your own good. 5 because our gospel did not come to you with word only, but also with power and with the Holy Spirit and with much certainty, just as you know what sort of people we became among you for your sake. 5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, even as you know what kind we were among you for your sake.5 for our (C1)good news regarding salvation came to you not only in word, but also (C2)in its inherent power and in the Holy Spirit and with (C3)great conviction on our part. You know (C4)what kind of men we proved to be among you for your benefit. 5 [c]how that our [d]gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much [e]assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake. 5 Because our good news came to you, not in word only, but in power, and in the Holy Spirit, so that you were completely certain of it; even as you saw what our behaviour to you was like from our love to you.5 and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Ruach HaKodesh, and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we shown ourselves to be among you for your sake. 5 for the gospel we brought[fn] did not come to you in words only, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction. Indeed,[fn] you know what kind of people we proved to be while we were with you, acting on your behalf.[xr] 5 because our preaching was not in words only with you, but with power, and with the Spirit of Holiness, and with the persuasion of truth. Also you know how we were among you, on account of you;5 For our preaching among you, was not in words only; but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in genuine persuasion. Ye also know, how we were among you for your sakes.5 For our Gospell came not vnto you in worde only, but also in power, and in the holy ghost, and in much certayntie, as ye knowe after what maner we were among you for your sake.5 how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and [in] much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we shewed ourselves toward you for your sake. 5 and that our gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we shown ourselves to be among you for your sake. 5 For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also with power, and with the Holy Ghost, and with much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you, for your sake.5 The Good News that we brought you did not come to you in words only, but also with power and with the Holy Spirit and with much certainty, for you know the sort of men we became among you, as examples for your sakes.5 for oure gospel was not at you in word oneli, but also in vertu, and in the Hooli Goost, and in myche plente; as ye witen, whiche we weren among you for you;5 how that our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as you know what manner of men we showed ourselves among you for your sake.5 For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 5 in that our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction (surely you recall the character we displayed when we came among you to help you).5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. 5 For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance[c] that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you. 5 The Good News did not come to you by word only, but with power and through the Holy Spirit. You knew it was true. You also knew how we lived among you. It was for your good. 5 because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake. 5 How that, our glad-message, came not unto you, in word only, but also in power, and in Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, - even as ye know what manner of men we became unto you, for your sake;5 For our gospel hath not been unto you in word only, but in power also: and in the Holy Ghost and in much fulness, as you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes.5 for our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.5 For oure gospell came not vnto you in worde only but also in power and also in the holy gost and in moche certayntie as ye knowe after what maner we behaued oure selves amonge you for youre sakes.5 because our good news did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, even as ye have known of what sort we became among you because of you,5 because our good news did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, even as you have known of what sort we became among you for your sake,5 for oure Gospell hath not bene with you in worde onely, but both in power and in the holy goost, and in moch certayntie, as ye knowe after what maner we were amonge you for youre sakes.5 since the gospel we preach'd, did not consist only of words, but was fully confirm'd by miracles and gifts of the holy spirit, you yourselves being witnesses, what we did among you and for you. 5 When we first gathered y'all in the sick pen and doctored you with the good news, he produced a healing inside each of you. It wasn't our words that did it, but the power of the Holy Ghost. We've kept a watchful eye for y'all ever since. 6 and you yourselves became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message(C1) with joy from the Holy Spirit.

6 And yee became followers of vs, and of the Lord, hauing receiued the word in much affliction, with ioy of the holy Ghost:

6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost. 6 And (p)you became imitators of us (q)and of the Lord, for (r)you received the word in much affliction, (s)with the (t)joy of the Holy Spirit,6 You also became (C1)imitators of us and of the Lord, (C2)having received (C3)the word during great affliction with the (C4)joy of the Holy Spirit, 6 And you became like us and like the Lord. You suffered much, but still you accepted the teaching with the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit. 6 You also became (C1)imitators of us and of the Lord, (C2)having received (C3)the word in much tribulation with the (C4)joy of the Holy Spirit,6 You also became (C1)imitators of us and of the Lord, (C2)having received (C3)the word in much affliction with the (C4)joy of the Holy Spirit,

6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord when you welcomed the message with the joy of the Holy Spirit, in spite of your great suffering. 6 So, when you accepted the message, you followed our example and the example of the Lord. You suffered, but the Holy Spirit made you glad. 6 You, indeed, became imitators of us and of the Lord; so that even though you were going through severe troubles, you received the Word with joy from the Ruach HaKodesh.

6 and *ye* became our imitators, and of the Lord, having accepted the word in much tribulation with joy of [the] Holy Spirit, 6 And you became like us and like the Lord. You suffered much, but still you accepted the teaching with joy. The Holy Spirit gave you that joy.
