He told me, ‘If your descendants live as they should and follow me faithfully with all their heart and soul, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.' 4 Then the Lord will keep His promise to me. He has said to me, ‘Your sons must be careful of their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and soul. If they do, you will never be without a man on the throne of Israel.' 4 Then the Lord will establish his word that he spoke concerning me: ‘If your heirs take heed to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a successor on the throne of Israel.'4 to the end that Yahweh may establish his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy sons will take heed to their way, by walking before me, in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul, (then, said he) there shall not be cut off to thee a man, from off the throne of Israel.4 That the Lord may confirm his words, which he hath spoken of me, saying: If thy children shall take heed to their ways, and shall walk before me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul, there shall not be taken away from thee a man on the throne of Israel.4 that the LORD may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a man on the throne of Israel.'4 so that YHWH establishes His word which He spoke to me, saying, If your sons observe their way to walk before Me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul; saying, A man of yours is never cut off from the throne of Israel.4 so that (C1)the LORD may carry out His promise which He spoke concerning me, saying, '(C2)If your sons are careful of their way, (C3)to walk before Me in (F1)truth with all their heart and with all their soul, (F2)(C4)you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.'
5 “You also know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me(C1) and what he did to the two commanders of Israel’s army, Abner son of Ner(C2) and Amasa son of Jether.(C3) He murdered them in a time of peace to avenge blood shed in war. He spilled that blood on his own waistband and on the sandals of his feet.(F1) 5 Moreover you know also what Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Yisra'el, to Aviner the son of Ner, and to `Amasa the son of Yeter, whom he killed, and shed the blood of war in shalom, and put the blood of war on his sash that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.
5 Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.
5 "Moreover, you also know what Joab the son of Zeruiah (i)did to me, how he dealt with the two commanders of the armies of Israel, (j)Abner the son of Ner, (k)and Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, avenging[b] in time of peace for blood that had been shed in war, and putting the blood of war[c] on the belt around his[d] waist and on the sandals on his feet.
5 "Also, you remember what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me. He killed the two commanders of Israel's armies: Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He did this as if he and they were at war, although it was a time of peace. He put their blood on the belt around his waist and on his sandals on his feet.
5 "You know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—how he murdered two commanders of the Israelite armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. During peacetime he struck them down like he would in battle; when he shed their blood as if in battle, he stained his own belt and the sandals on his feet.
5 "Now you also know what Joab the (C1)son of Zeruiah my sister did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, (C2)to Abner the son of Ner and (C3)to Amasa the son of Jether, both of whom he murdered; (F1)avenging the blood of war in a time of peace. And he put the innocent blood of war of Abner and Amasa on his (F2)belt that was around his (F3)waist, and on his sandals on his feet.
5 "Now you yourself also know what Joab the (C1)son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to (C2)Abner the son of Ner and to (C3)Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed; he also (F1)shed the blood of war in peace. And he put the blood of war on his belt that was on his waist, and on his sandals that were on his feet.5 Thou knowest also what Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captaines of the hostes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether: whome he slewe, and shed blood of battell in peace, and put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shooes that were on his feete.
5 "Now you also know what Joab the (C1)son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to (C2)Abner the son of Ner, and to (C3)Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed; he also (F1)shed the blood of war in peace. And he put the blood of war on his belt (F2)about his (F3)waist, and on his sandals (F4)on his feet.
5 Solomon, don't forget what Joab did to me by killing Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether, the two commanders of Israel's army. He killed them as if they were his enemies in a war, but he did it when there was no war.[a] He is guilty, and now it's up to you to punish him
5 "Moreover, you are aware of what Yo'av the son of Tz'ruyah did to me, that is, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Isra'el, Avner the son of Ner and ‘Amasa the son of Yeter — he killed them, shedding the blood of war in peacetime, putting the blood of war on the belt around his waist and the shoes on his feet.
5 And thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and upon his sandals that were on his feet.
5 David also said, "You remember what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me. He killed two of the commanders of Israel's army, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. Remember, it was during a time of peace when he spilled the blood that splattered onto his sword belt and army boots. I should have punished him then.5 Now, you know also what Joab the son of Zoriah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew and considered them as though they were in the battle, and shed their blood with the sword that was about his loins and trampled upon it with the shoes that were on his feet.
5 (a)"There is something else. You remember what Joab did to me by killing the two commanders of Israel's armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. You remember how he murdered them in time of peace as revenge for deaths they had caused in time of war. He killed innocent men,[a] and now I bear the responsibility for what he did, and I suffer[b] the consequences.
5 "Moreover, you also know what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me when he dealt with the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner son of Ner and to Amasa son of Jether, and he murdered them and put the blood of war in a time of peace. He put the blood of war on the leather belt that was on his waist and on the sandals which were on his feet. 5 And also, you know that which Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, that which he did to the two army commanders of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, that he murdered them, and shed the blood of war in peace, andput the blood of war on his girdle, on his loins and in his sandals on his feet;5 Thou knowest well also what Ioab the sonne of Zeru Ia hath done vnto me, what he dyd vnto the two chefe captaynes of Israel, Abner the sonne of Ner, and Amasa the sonne of Iether, whom he slewe and shed the bloude of warre wha it was peace, & put the bloude of warre vpon his girdel yt was aboute his loynes, and in his shues that were vpon his fete: 5 Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did unto me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and [b]shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. 5 Now you have knowledge of what Joab, the son of Zeruiah, did to me, and to the two captains of the army of Israel, Abner, the son of Ner, and Amasa, the son of Jether, whom he put to death, taking payment for the blood of war in time of peace, and making the band of my clothing and the shoes on my feet red with the blood of one put to death without cause.5 Moreouer, thou wottest howe Ioab the sonne of Zaruia serued me, and what he did to the two captaynes of the hoastes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether, whom he slue, and shed blood in time of peace (euen as it had ben in warre) & put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shoes that were on his feete.5 Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did unto me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.5 Moreouer thou knowest also what Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah did to mee, and what he did to the two captaines of the hostes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether, whom hee slewe, and shed the blood of warre in peace, and put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shooes that were on his feet. 5 Moreover thou knowest all that Joab the son of Saruia did to me, what he did to the two captains of the forces of Israel, to Abenner the son of Ner, and to Amessai the son of Jether, that he slew them, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put innocent blood on his girdle that was about his loins, and on his sandal that was on his foot. 5 Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did unto me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. 5 Moreover, you know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me and what he did to Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether, the two commanders of the armies of Israel. He killed them in peacetime to avenge(a) the blood of war(a). He stained with the blood of war the belt around his waist and the sandals on his feet(a).5 Also thou knowist what thingis Joab, the sone of Saruye, dide to me; what thingis he dide to twey princis of the oost of Israel, to Abner, sone of Ner, and to Amasa, sone of Jether, whiche he killide, and schedde the blood of batel in pees; and puttide the blood of batel in his girdil, that was aboute hise leendis, and in his scho, that was in hise feet.5 `And also, thou hast known that which he did to me -- Joab son of Zeruiah -- that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether -- that he slayeth them, and maketh the blood of war in peace, and putteth the blood of war in his girdle, that [is] on his loins, and in his sandals that [are] on his feet;5 Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.5 Moreover, thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, [and] what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that [was] about his loins, and in his shoes that [were] on his feet.5 Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his sash that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. 5 "Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed. And he shed the blood of war in peacetime, and put the blood of war on his belt that was around his waist, and on his sandals that were on his feet.
5 "And there is something else. You know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me when he murdered my two army commanders, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He pretended that it was an act of war, but it was done in a time of peace,[a] staining his belt and sandals with innocent blood.[b] 5 Now you know what Zeruiah's son Joab did to me. You know what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel. He killed Abner the son of Ner, and Amasa the son of Jether in the time of peace as if it were in the time of war. He put the blood of war on his belt and on the shoes of his feet.
5 "Moreover you know also what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, how he dealt with the two commanders of the armies of Israel, Abner son of Ner, and Amasa son of Jether, whom he murdered, retaliating in time of peace for blood that had been shed in war, and putting the blood of war on the belt around his waist, and on the sandals on his feet. 5 Moreover also, thou, knowest what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, how he dealt with two generals of the armies of Israel - with Abner son of Ner, and with Amasa son of Jether - both of whom he slew, shedding the blood of war in peace, - and putting the blood of war upon his girdle that was on his loins, and upon his sandals, that were on his feet.5 Thou knowest also what Joab, the son of Sarvia, hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the army of Israel, to Abner, the son of Ner, and to Amasa, the son of Jether: whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.5 "Moreover you know also what Jo'ab the son of Zeru'iah did to me, how he dealt with the two commanders of the armies of Israel, Abner the son of Ner, and Ama'sa the son of Jether, whom he murdered, avenging in time of peace blood which had been shed in war, and putting innocent blood upon the girdle about my loins, and upon the sandals on my feet.5 And also, you have known that which he did to me—Joab son of Zeruiah—that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether—that he slays them, and makes the blood of war in peace, and puts the blood of war in his girdle, that [is] on his loins, and in his sandals that [are] on his feet;5-6 "And don't forget what Joab son of Zeruiah did to the two commanders of Israel's army, to Abner son of Ner and to Amasa son of Jether. He murdered them in cold blood, acting in peacetime as if he were at war, and has been stained with that blood ever since. Do what you think best with him, but by no means let him get off scot-free—make him pay.
And he put the blood of war on his belt (F2)about his waist, and on his sandals (F3)on his feet.6 Act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray head descend to Sheol in peace.
6 Do therefore according to your wisdom, and don't let his gray head go down to She'ol in shalom.6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace. 6 Act therefore (l)according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace. 6 Punish him in the way you think is wisest, but do not let him die peacefully of old age. 6 Do to him what you think is appropriate, but don't let him live long and die a peaceful death.6 "(C1)So act in accordance with your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol (the place of the dead) in peace.6 "(C1)So act as your wisdom dictates, and do not let his gray hair go down to (F1)Sheol in peace.6 Doe therefore according to thy wisdome, and let thou not his hoare head go downe to the graue in peace.6 "(C1)So act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to Sheol in peace. 6 in the way you think best. 6 And thou shalt do according to thy wisdom, and not let his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace. 6 Use your wisdom, but don't let him die peacefully of old age.6 Do to him therefore according to your wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to the grave in peace. 6 You know what to do; you must not let him die a natural death. 6 You must act according to your wisdom, but you must not let his gray hair go down to Sheol in peace. 6 and you shall do according to your wisdom, and shall not let his gray hair go down to Sheol in peace.6 Do thou acordynge to thy wy?dome, that thou brynge not his graye heer downe to the graue in peace. 6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace. 6 So be guided by your wisdom, and let not his white head go down to the underworld in peace.6 Deale with him therefore according to thy wisdome, and bring not his hoore head downe to the graue in peace.6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace.6 Doe therefore according to thy wisedome, and let not his hoare head goe downe to the graue in peace. 6 Therefore thou shalt deal with him according to thy wisdom, and thou shalt not bring down his grey hairs in peace to the grave. 6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace. 6 So act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace.6 Therfor thou schalt do by thi wisdom, and thou schalt not lede forth his hoornesse pesibli to hellis.6 and thou hast done according to thy wisdom, and dost not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.6 Do therefore according to your wisdom, and don't let his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to the grave in peace.6 Do therefore according to your wisdom, and don't let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace. 6 Therefore do according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace. 6 Do with him what you think best, but don't let him grow old and go to his grave in peace.[c] 6 So act with wisdom. Do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace. 6 Act therefore according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace. 6 Thou, therefore, must do according to thy wisdom, - but will not let his grey hair go down in peace, to hades.6 Do, therefore, according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to hell in peace.6 Act therefore according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace.6 and you have done according to your wisdom, and do not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.6 "(C1)So act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to (F1)Sheol in peace.
