Paul Received the Good News from God

1 Christian brothers, when I came to you, I did not preach the secrets of God with big sounding words or make it sound as if I were so wise.

Proclaiming Christ Crucified

1 When I came to you, brothers and sisters,[a] I did not come proclaiming the mystery[b] of God to you in lofty words or wisdom.

1 When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom.

1 And I brethren when I came to you came not in gloriousnes of wordes or of wysdome shewynge vnto you the testimony of God.

1 And I, having come unto you, brethren, came -- not in superiority of discourse or wisdom -- declaring to you the testimony of God,

1 And I, having come to you, brothers, came—not in superiority of discourse or wisdom—declaring to you the testimony of God,

1 And I brethre, wha I came vnto you came not wt hye wordes or hye wyssdome, to shewe vnto you the preachinge of Christ.

1 As for me, my brethren, when I appear'd among you, it was not to represent to you the divine mystery in sublime language, and with human literature. 1-2 You'll remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God's master stroke, I didn't try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified.

1 When I rode into town, I didn't use riddles and fancy speeches to reveal God's secret plan. 2 I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.(C1) 2 For I determined not to know any thing amog you, saue Iesus Christ, and him crucified.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except (c)Jesus Christ and him crucified.2 For I determined to know nothing among you except (C1)Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. 2 I decided that while I was with you I would forget about everything except Jesus Christ and his death on the cross. 2 for I made the decision to (F1)know nothing that is, to forego philosophical or theological discussions regarding inconsequential things and opinions while among you except (C1)Jesus Christ, and Him crucified and the meaning of His redemptive, substitutionary death and His resurrection.2 For I determined to know nothing among you except (C1)Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.2 For I determined to know nothing among you except (C1)Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 2 In fact, while I was with you, I made up my mind to speak only about Jesus Christ, who had been nailed to a cross. 2 for I had decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Yeshua the Messiah, and even him only as someone who had been executed on a stake as a criminal.

2 For I did not judge [it well] to know anything among you save Jesus Christ, and *him* crucified. 2 I decided that while I was with you I would forget about everything except Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.2 For I esteemed not to knowe any thing among you, saue Iesus Christ, and him crucified.2 For I did not pretend to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and even him crucified. 2 For while I was with you, I made up my mind to forget everything except Jesus Christ and especially his death on the cross. 2 For I decided not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 2 For I decided not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ, and Him having been crucified. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I had made the decision to have knowledge of nothing among you but only of Jesus Christ on the cross.2 For I determined not to know anything among you, except Yeshua the Messiah, and him crucified. 2 For while I was with you I resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified.[xr] 2 And I considered myself among you as not knowing any thing unless Jeshu Meshiha, and him also as crucified.2 And I did not govern myself among you, as if I knew any thing, except only Jesus Messiah; and him also as crucified.2 For I esteemed not to knowe any thyng among you saue Iesus Christe, and hym crucified.2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.2 For I determined to be utterly ignorant, when among you, of everything except of Jesus Christ, and of Him as having been crucified.2 For Y demede not me to kunne ony thing among you, but Crist Jhesu, and hym crucified.2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I decided to be concerned about nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 2 For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. 2 I made up my mind that while I was with you I would speak of nothing except Jesus Christ and of His death on the cross. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2 For I had not determined to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, - and, him, as one who had been crucified!2 For I judged not myself to know anything among you, but Jesus Christ: and him crucified.2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.2 Nether shewed I my selfe that I knewe eny thinge amonge you save Iesus Christ eve the same that was crucified.2 for I decided not to know any thing among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified;2 for I decided not to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified;2 For I shewed not forth my selfe amonge you that I knewe eny thinge, saue onely Iesus Christ, euen the sam thate was crucified.2 for I did not think I was to have any other knowledge among you, than that of Christ, a crucified saviour. 2 I spoke as plainly as the nose on your face. I told you who Jesus was and what he did for all of us when he was strung up on the cross. 3 I came to you in weakness,(C1) in fear,(C2) and in much trembling.(C3) 3 And I was with you in weakenesse, and in feare, and in much trembling.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 3 And (d)I was with you (e)in weakness and in fear and much trembling,3 I also was with you in (C1)weakness and (C2)fear, and in great trembling, 3 So when I came to you, I was weak and fearful and trembling. 3 I came to you in a state of (C1)weakness and (C2)fear and great trembling.3 I was with you in (C1)weakness and in (C2)fear and in much trembling,3 And I was with you in (C1)weakness and in (C2)fear and in much trembling,3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.

3 At first, I was weak and trembling with fear. 3 Also I myself was with you as somebody weak, nervous and shaking all over from fear;

3 And *I* was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling; 3 When I came to you, I was weak and shook with fear.3 And I was among you in weakenesse, and in feare, and in much trembling.3 And I was with you with much reverence for God and in trembling. 3 (a)So when I came to you, I was weak and trembled all over with fear, 3 And I came to you in weakness and in fear and with much trembling, 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 3 And I was with you without strength, in fear and in doubt.3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 3 It was in weakness, fear, and great trembling that I came to you.[xr] 3 And I in much fear and trembling was with you.3 And in much fear and much trembling, was I with you.3 And I was among you in weaknesse, and in feare, and in much tremblyng.3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.3 And so far as I myself was concerned, I came to you in conscious feebleness and in fear and in deep anxiety.3 And Y in sikenesse, and drede, and myche trembling, was among you;3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and with much trembling. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 3 I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. 3 When I was with you, I was weak. I was afraid and I shook. 3 And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. 3 I, therefore in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling, came to be with you,3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling.3 And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling;3 And I was amoge you in weaknes and in feare and in moche treblinge.3 and I, in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling, was with you;3 and I, in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling, was with you;3 And I was amonge you in weaknes, and in feare, and in moch tremblinge:3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in great agony: 3-5 I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God's Spirit and God's power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God's power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.3 You didn't hear this from some cocky roper, but from one who didn't feel worthy of the words he said. Quite frankly, I was scared out of my gourd. 4 My speech(C1) and my preaching were not with persuasive(C2) words of wisdom(F1) but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 4 And my speech, and my preaching was not with entising words of mans wisedome, but in demonstration of the Spirit, and of power:

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of (f)the Spirit and of power,4 and my (F1)message and my preaching were (C1)not in persuasive words of (F2)wisdom, but in demonstration of (C2)the Spirit and of power, 4 My teaching and preaching were not with words of human wisdom that persuade people but with proof of the power that the Spirit gives. 4 And my message and my preaching were (C1)not in persuasive words of wisdom using clever rhetoric, but they were delivered in demonstration of (C2)the Holy Spirit operating through me and of His power stirring the minds of the listeners and persuading them,4 and my (F1)message and my preaching were (C1)not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of (C2)the Spirit and of power,4 and my word and my preaching were (C1)not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of (C2)the Spirit and of power,4 My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 4 When I talked with you or preached, I didn't try to prove anything by sounding wise. I simply let God's Spirit show his power. 4 and neither the delivery nor the content of my message relied on compelling words of "wisdom" but on a demonstration of the power of the Spirit,

4 and my word and my preaching, not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of [the] Spirit and of power; 4 My teaching and my speaking were not with wise words that persuade people. But the proof of my teaching was the power that the Spirit gives.4 Neither stoode my woorde, and my preaching in the entising speach of mans wisdom, but in plaine euidence of the Spirite and of power,4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 4 and my teaching and message were not delivered with skillful words of human wisdom, but with convincing proof of the power of God's Spirit. 4 and my speech and my preaching were not with the persuasiveness[c] of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and power, 4 And my word and my preaching was not in enticing words of human wisdom, but in proof of the Spirit and of power, 4 And my [c]speech and my [d]preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 4 And in my preaching there were no honeyed words of wisdom, but I was dependent on the power of the Spirit to make it clear to you:4 My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 4 My message and my preaching were not accompanied by clever words of wisdom, but by a display of the Spirit's power,[xr] 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with the persuasion of the words of wisdom, but with the demonstration of the Spirit and of power;4 And my speech and my preaching were not with the persuasiveness of the discourses of wisdom; but with the demonstration of the Spirit, and with power:4 And my wordes and my preachyng was not with entysing wordes of mans wisedome, but in shewyng of the spirite, and of power:4 And my speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 4 My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with the persuasive words of human wisdom, but with the demonstration of the Spirit and of power.4 And my language and the Message that I proclaimed were not adorned with persuasive words of earthly wisdom, but depended upon truths which the Spirit taught and mightily carried home;4 and my word and my preching was not in suteli sturyng wordis of mannus wisdom, but in schewyng of spirit and of vertu;4 And my speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:4 And my speech and my preaching [was] not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit, and of power: 4 My conversation and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human [fn] wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 4 What I had to say when I preached was not in big sounding words of man's wisdom. But it was given in the power of the Holy Spirit. 4 My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom,[c] but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 4 And, my discourse, and what I proclaimed, were not in suasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of Spirit and power:4 And my speech and my preaching was not in the persuasive words of human wisdom. but in shewing of the Spirit and power:4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,4 And my wordes and my preachinge were not with entysynge wordes of manes wysdome: but in shewinge of ye sprete and of power4 and my word and my preaching was not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power --4 and my word and my preaching was not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power—4 and my worde and my preachinge was not with entysinge wordes of mans wyssdome, but in shewinge of the sprete and of power:4 my discourse, and my preaching did not consist in the persuasive reasonings of human wisdom, but in demonstrating the spiritual meaning of the scriptures: 4 But as I said, the message you heard was a plain and simple one. I didn't rely on practiced sermons, but on the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 so that your faith might not be based on human wisdom but on God’s power.(C1)

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdome of men, but in the power of God.

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men[c] but (g)in the power of God.5 so that your faith would not (F1)rest on the (F2)wisdom of mankind, but on (C1)the power of God.

5 This was so that your faith would be in God's power and not in human wisdom.5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom and rhetoric of men, but on (C1)the power of God.

5 so that your faith would not (F1)rest on the wisdom of men, but on (C1)the power of God.

5 so that your faith would not be in the wisdom of men, but in (C1)the power of God.

5 so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. 5 That way you would have faith because of God's power and not because of human wisdom. 5 so that your trust might not rest on human wisdom but on God's power.

5 that your faith might not stand in men's wisdom, but in God's power. 5 I did this so that your faith would be in God's power, not in human wisdom.5 That your faith should not be in the wisdome of men, but in the power of God.5 So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 Your faith, then, does not rest on human wisdom but on God's power. 5 in order that your faith would not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.5 that your faith might not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 that your faith should not [e]stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.5 So that your faith might be based not on man's wisdom but on the power of God.5 that your faith wouldn't stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on God's power.[xr] 5 that your faith might not be through the wisdom of men, but through the power of Aloha.5 that your faith might not arise from the wisdom of men, but from the power of God.5 That your fayth should not stande in the wisedome of men, but in the power of God.5 that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 that your faith wouldn't stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 That your faith might not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.5 so that your trust might rest not on the wisdom of man but on the power of God.5 that youre feith be not in the wisdom of men, but in the vertu of God.5 that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 5 so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on the power of God.5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 5 I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. 5 In this way, you do not have faith in Christ because of the wisdom of men. You have faith in Christ because of the power of God. 5 so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.5 In order that, your faith, might not be in men's wisdom, but in God's power.5 That your faith might not stand on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.5 that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.5 that youre fayth shuld not stonde in ye wysdome of me but in yt power of God.5 that your faith may not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.5 that your faith may not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.5 that youre faith shulde not stonde in the wyssdome of men, but in the power of God.5 that your faith might not be owing to human wisdom, but to the divine influence. 5 God wanted it like this because he wants you to trust in his abilities, not in men's words.

Spiritual Wisdom

6 We do, however, speak a wisdom among the mature,(C1) but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers(C2) of this age, who are coming to nothing.(C3)

6 Howbeit wee speake wisedome among them that are perfect: yet not the wisedome of this worlde, nor of the Princes of this worlde, that come to nought:

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

Wisdom from the Spirit

6 Yet among (h)the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not (i)a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, (j)who are doomed to pass away.

6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are (C1)mature; a wisdom, however, not of (C2)this age nor of the rulers of (C2)this age, who are (C3)passing away;

God's Wisdom

6 However, I speak a wisdom to those who are mature. But this wisdom is not from this world or from the rulers of this world, who are losing their power.

6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those spiritually (C1)mature believers who have teachable hearts and a greater understanding; but it is a higher wisdom not the wisdom of (C2)this present age nor of the rulers and leaders of (C2)this age, who are (C3)passing away;

6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are (C1)mature; a wisdom, however, not of (C2)this age nor of the rulers of (C2)this age, who are (C3)passing away;

6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are (C1)mature, a wisdom, however, not of (C2)this age nor of the rulers of (C2)this age, who are (C3)being abolished.

Spiritual Wisdom

6 Among the mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom—but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

6 We do use wisdom when speaking to people who are mature in their faith. But it isn't the wisdom of this world or of its rulers, who will soon disappear.

6 Yet there is a wisdom that we are speaking to those who are mature enough for it. But it is not the wisdom of this world or of this world's leaders, who are in the process of passing away.

6 But we speak wisdom among the perfect; but wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who come to nought.
