1 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud, and that they all passed through the sea.

Don't Worship Idols

1 Friends, I want to remind you that all of our ancestors walked under the cloud and went through the sea.

1 For, brothers, I don't want you to miss the significance of what happened to our fathers. All of them were guided by the pillar of cloud, and they all passed through the sea,

1 For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

Warning From History

1 Brothers and sisters, I want you to know what happened to our ancestors who were with Moses. They were all under the cloud,[a] and they all walked through the sea.

A History Lesson from Israel

1 For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all went through the sea,

1 And I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the Sea.

1 For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

1 For it is my desire, my brothers, that you may keep in mind how all our fathers were under the cloud, and they all went through the sea;

1 Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

1 For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the fact that all of our ancestors were under the cloud, and they all went through the sea,[xr]

1 BUT I would that you know, my brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud,

1 And, my Brethren, I would have you know, that our fathers were all of them under the cloud, and they all passed through the sea;

1 Brethre, I woulde not that ye shoulde be ignoraunt, howe that all our fathers were vnder the cloude, and all passed through the sea,

1 For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, how that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

1 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud,

1 For I would have you remember, brethren, how our forefathers were all of them sheltered by the cloud, and all got safely through the Red Sea.

1 Britheren, Y nyle, that ye vnknowe, that alle oure fadris weren vndur cloude, and alle passiden the see;

Lessons from Israel's Idolatry

1 I don't want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters,[a] about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground.

The Danger of Worshiping False Gods

1 Christian brothers, I want you to know what happened to our early fathers. They all walked from the country of Egypt under the cloud that showed them the way, and they all passed through the waters of the Red Sea.

Warnings from Israel's History

1 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[a] that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

1 For I wish not ye should be ignorant, brethren, that, all our fathers, were, under the cloud, and, all, passed through the sea, -

1 For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud: and all passed through the sea.

1 I want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

1 Brethren I wolde not that ye shuld be ignoraunt of this how yt oure fathers were all vnder a cloude and all passed thorow the see

1 And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

1 And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

1 Brethren, I wolde not that ye shulde be ignoraunt of this, that oure fathers were all vnder the cloude, and all passed thorow the see,

1 I would not have you ignorant, my brethren, that all our fathers were under the Cloud, all passed thro' the sea: 1-5 Remember our history, friends, and be warned. All our ancestors were led by the providential Cloud and taken miraculously through the Sea. They went through the waters, in a baptism like ours, as Moses led them from enslaving death to salvation life. They all ate and drank identical food and drink, meals provided daily by God. They drank from the Rock, God's fountain for them that stayed with them wherever they were. And the Rock was Christ. But just experiencing God's wonder and grace didn't seem to mean much—most of them were defeated by temptation during the hard times in the desert, and God was not pleased.

Lessons Learned

1 Listen to me, cowboys and cowgirls. Let's not forget the lessons we learned from our ancestors who came out of Egypt with Moses. Their trail guide through the wilderness was a cloud in the sky and they all walked across a sea on dry ground. 2 and all were baptized(C1) into Moses(C2) in the cloud and in the sea. 2 And were all baptized vnto Moyses in the cloud, and in the sea:

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,2 and they all were (C1)baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 2 They were all baptized as followers of Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 2 And all of them were (C1)baptized into Moses into his safekeeping as their leader in the cloud and in the sea;2 and all were (C1)baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;2 and all were (C1)baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 2 This was like being baptized and becoming followers of Moses. 2 and in connection with the cloud and with the sea they all immersed themselves into Moshe,

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 3 and (c)all ate the same (d)spiritual food,3 and they all (C1)ate the same spiritual food, 3 They all ate the same spiritual food, 3 and all of them (C1)ate the same (F1)spiritual food; (VR1)3 and all (C1)ate the same spiritual food;3 and all (C1)ate the same spiritual food;3 They all ate the same spiritual food 3 All of them also ate the same spiritual food 3 also they all ate the same food from the Spirit,

3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 3 They all ate the same spiritual food,3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat,3 And all ate the same spiritual food; 3 (b)All ate the same spiritual bread 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food. 3 and did all eat the same spiritual food; 3 And they all took the same holy food;3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 3 and they all ate the same spiritual food,[xr] 3 3 Musha were baptized in the cloud and in the sea, and all of them ate one spiritual food, [fn] and all of them drank one spiritual drink; [fn] 3 and they all ate the same spiritual food;3 And dyd all eate of one spirituall meate.3 and did all eat the same spiritual meat; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 3 in the cloud and in the sea, And all ate the same spiritual meat,3 All ate the same spiritual food,3 and alle eeten the same spiritual mete,3 and all ate the same spiritual food;3 And all ate the same spiritual food; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 3 all ate the same spiritual food, 3 All of them ate the same spiritual food, 3 All of them ate the same holy food. 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 3 And, all, did eat the samespiritual food,3 And did all eat the same spiritual food:3 and all ate the same supernatural food3 and dyd all eate of one spirituall meate3 and all the same spiritual food did eat,3 and all ate the same spiritual food,3 and dyd all eate of one spirituall meate,3 they all eat the same spiritual meat, 3 They all ate the same food from heaven 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock(C1) that followed them, and that rock was Christ.(C2) 4 And did all drinke the same spirituall drinke: (for they dranke of that spirituall Rocke that followed them: and that Rocke was Christ)

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 4 and (e)all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.4 and all (C1)drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was (F1)Christ. 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from that spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ. 4 and all of them (C1)drank the same (F1)spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. (VR1)4 and all (C1)drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was (F1)Christ.4 and all (C1)drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was (F1)Christ.4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 4 and drank the same spiritual drink, which flowed from the spiritual rock that followed them. That rock was Christ. 4 and they all drank the same drink from the Spirit — for they drank from a Spirit-sent Rock which followed them, and that Rock was the Messiah.

4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank of a spiritual rock which followed [them]: (now the rock was the Christ;) 4 and they all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from that spiritual rock that was with them, and that rock was Christ.4 And did all drinke the same spirituall drinke (for they dranke of the spiritual Rocke that folowed them: and the Rocke was Christ)4 And all drank the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 4 (c)and drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from the spiritual rock that went with them; and that rock was Christ himself. 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. 4 And all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank of the spiritual rock following, and that Rock was Christ. 4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was [b]Christ. 4 And the same holy drink: for they all took of the water from the holy rock which came after them: and the rock was Christ.4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Messiah. 4 and they all drank the same spiritual drink, for they continually drank from the spiritual Rock that went with them, and that Rock was Christ.[xr] 4 4 for they drank of that spiritual Rock [fn] which went with them,-but that Rock was the Meshiha himself. 4 and they all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that attended them, and that rock was the Messiah.4 And dyd all drynke of one maner of spirituall drynke. (And they dranke of that spirituall rocke that folowed them, which rocke was Christe.) 4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ. 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. 4 And all drank the same spiritual drink (for they drank out of the spiritual rock which followed them; and that rock was Christ) Yet, with the most of them, God was not well-pleased;4 and all drank the same spiritual drink; for they long drank the water that flowed from the spiritual rock that went with them--and that rock was the Christ.4 and alle drunken the same spiritual drynke; thei drunken of the spiritual stoon folewynge hem; and the stoon was Crist.4 and all drank the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.4 And all drank the same spiritual drink: (for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.) 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they were all drinking from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 4 and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ. 4 They all drank the same holy drink. They drank from a holy Rock that went along with them. That holy Rock was Christ. 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. 4 And, all, drank, the same spiritual drink, - for they continued to drink of the spiritual rock that followed them, and, the rock, was the Christ: - 4 And all drank the same spiritual drink: (And they drank of the spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.)4 and all drank the same supernatural drink. For they drank from the supernatural Rock which followed them, and the Rock was Christ.4 and did all drincke of one maner of spirituall drincke. And they dranke of that spretuall rocke that folowed them which rocke was Christ.4 and all the same spiritual drink did drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ;4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ;4 and dyd all drynke of one spirituall drynke: but they dronke of the spirituall rocke that folowed the, which rocke was Christ.4 and all drank the same spiritual drink: (for they drank of what flowed from the spiritual rock: and that rock was Christ.) 4 and drank the same spiritual water. They drank from the rock that traveled with them and that rock was Jesus. 5 Nevertheless God was not pleased with most of them, since they were struck down in the wilderness.(C1)

5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were ouerthrowen in the wildernesse.

5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for (f)they were overthrown[b] in the wilderness.5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased; for their dead bodies were (C1)spread out in the wilderness.

5 But God was not pleased with most of them, so they died in the desert.5 Nevertheless, God was not well-pleased with (F1)most of them, for (C1)they were scattered along the ground in the wilderness because their lack of self-control led to disobedience which led to death. (VR1)

5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for (C1)they were laid low in the wilderness.

5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased. For (C1)THEY WERE (F1)STRUCK DOWN IN THE WILDERNESS.5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness. 5 But most of them did not please God. So they died, and their bodies were scattered all over the desert. 5 Yet with the majority of them God was not pleased, so their bodies were strewn across the desert.

5 yet God was not pleased with the most of them, for they were strewed in the desert. 5 But God was not pleased with most of those people, so they were killed in the desert.5 But with many of them God was not pleased: for they were ouerthrowen in ye wildernes.5 But with many of them God was not well pleased; for they were smitten in the wilderness. 5 (d)But even then God was not pleased with most of them, and so their dead bodies were scattered over the desert. 5 But God was not pleased with the majority of them, for they were struck down in the desert.5 Yet God was not pleased with most of them, "for they were scattered in the deserted place." Num. 14:16 5 Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 5 But with most of them God was not pleased: for they came to their end in the waste land.5 However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 5 But God wasn't pleased with most of them, and so they were struck down in the wilderness.[xr] 5 But not with many of them was Aloha pleased; for they fell in the desert.5 But with a multitude of them, God was not pleased; for they fell in the wilderness.5 But in many of them had God no delite: For they were ouerthrowen in the wildernesse.5 Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 5 However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 5 for they were overthrown in the wilderness.5 But with most of them God was not well pleased; for they were laid low in the Desert.5 But not in ful manye of hem it was wel pleasaunt to God; for whi thei weren cast doun in desert.5 Nevertheless with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 5 But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were cut down in the wilderness. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 5 Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 5 Even then most of them did not please God. He destroyed them in the desert. 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, and they were struck down in the wilderness.5 Nevertheless, with the most of them, God, was not well-pleased, for they were strewed along in the desert.5 But with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the desert.5 Nevertheless with most of them God was not pleased; for they were overthrown in the wilderness.5 But in many of them had god no delite. For they were overthrowen in the wildernes.5 but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness,5 but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness,5 Neuertheles in many of them had God no delyte, for they were smytten downe in the wyldernesse.5 but with the greater part God was not well pleased: for their carcasses were strown in the wilderness. 5 Despite all they saw and experienced, God was not pleased with them. As a result, their bodies are strewn all through the wilderness.

6 Now these things took place as examples for us, so that we will not desire(C1) evil things as they did.(F1)(C2)

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent wee should not lust after euil things, as they also lusted.

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as (g)they did.

6 Now these things happened as (C1)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as (C2)they indeed craved them.

6 And these things happened as examples for us, to stop us from wanting evil things as those people did.

6 Now these things the warnings and admonitions took place as (C1)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as (C2)they did. (VR1)

6 Now these things happened as (C1)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as (C2)they also craved.6 Now these things happened as (C1)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as (C2)they also craved.

6 These things took place as examples to keep us from craving evil things as they did.

6 What happened to them is a warning to keep us from wanting to do the same evil things.

6 Now these things took place as prefigurative historical events, warning us not to set our hearts on evil things as they did.

6 But these things happened [as] types of us, that we should not be lusters after evil things, as they also lusted.

6 And these things that happened are examples for us. These examples should stop us from wanting evil things like those people did.
