Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

שָׁכֵחַ (Isaiah 49:14; Proverbs 2:17), fut. יִשְׁכַּח to forget (perhaps cognate to the verb שָׁכָה), Genesis 27:45 followed by an acc. Genesis 40:23; Psalms 9:13 followed by מִן with an inf. Psalms 102:5 to leave something from forgetfulness, Deuteronomy 24:19. Men are often said to forget God, Deuteronomy 6:12, 32:18 Judges 3:7 or the law of God, Hosea 4:6 and, on the other hand, God is said to forget (not to care for) any one, Psalms 10:12; Isaiah 49:14 his mercy (to be unmindful of it), Psalms 77:10.

Niphal, to be forgotten, Genesis 41:30; Psalms 31:13; Job 28:4, נִשְׁכָּחִים מִנִּי רֶגֶל “forgotten of the foot,” i.e. void of aid of the feet. Pregn. Deuteronomy 31:21, לֹא תֻשָּׁכַח מִפִּי זַרְעוֹ “(this song) shall not be forgotten (nor cease) out of the mouth of their seed.”

Piel, Lamentations 2:6, and

Hiphil, Jeremiah 23:27, to cause to forget.

Hithpael, i.q. Niphal, Ecclesiastes 8:10. Hence

שָׁכֵחַ m. forgetting, forgetful, Isaiah 65:11. Pl. const. שְׁכֵחֵי Psalms 9:18.
