Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

שְׁדֵמָה f.

(I) Isaiah 37:27, i.q. שְׁדֵפָה 2 Kings 19:26 the letters מ and פ being interchanged; see under the letter.

(II) pl. שְׁדֵמוֹת constr. שַׁדְמוֹת fields, Jeremiah 31:40; 2 Kings 23:4, either planted with corn, Habakkuk 3:17, or with vines, vineyards, Deuteronomy 32:32. Twice, Isaiah 16:8; Habakkuk 3:17, joined with a sing. verb. This signification, although there is no trace of it in the cognate languages, is sufficiently confirmed both by the context of the passages and the authority of the ancient versions. Some have sometimes unsuitably rendered it vines.
