Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

רֶפֶת only in plur. רְפָתִים Habakkuk 3:17, ox-stalls, as the Hebrew interpreters rightly give it. See as to the etymology and talmudic use, under the root רָפַף. ת in this word, although servile, is retained in the plur.; compare קֶשֶׁת, קְשָׁתוֹת. Besides the roots mentioned under the root, the following words might be compared, Arabic رُفُ, رُفَّةُ, رُفَّتُ, and even رُفَتُ straw, fodder for cattle; also so called from the idea of plucking. LXX. Vulg. prœsepia.
