Qal 3 feminine singular suffix עֲנָקַתְמוֺ Psalm 73:6 pride is necklace for them.
Hiph`il Imperfect and Infinitive absolute הַעֲנֵיקתַּעֲנִיק לוֺ Deuteronomy 15:14 thou shalt make a rich necklace for him from thy flock, etc., figurative for richly load him.
עָנַק to adorn with a neck chain or collar. (From the idea of choking, or strangling, which is that of the kindred roots אָנַק, חַנַק, which see. Arab. عنق IV. to ornament a dog with a collar. عُنْقُ neck, Germ. Nacken, Upper-Germ. die Anke.) Once used figuratively, Psalms 73:6, עֲנָקַתְמֹו גַאֲוָה “pride surrounds them like a neck chain,” i.e. clothes their neck; a stiff neck being used poetically as the seat of pride.
Hiphil הֶעֱנִיק prob. to lay on the neck (to be carried), Deuteronomy 15:14, used of a slave set at liberty: הַעֲנֵיק תַּעֲנִיק לֹו מִצֹּאנְךָ וְגו׳ “thou shalt lay upon him of thy flock,” etc, LXX., Vulg. dabis viaticum. Others apply to the word the signification of giving, so that it would properly be to adorn with a collar; hence with gifts. As to what I formerly compared, on the authority of Castell and Giggeius, “عنق followed by على to shew oneself easy, gentle,” it rests on a mistake of Giggeius in rendering the words of the Kamûs (ii. p. 1318, edit. Calcutt.).
