Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

עֻמָּה f.

(1) prop. subst. conjunction, communion (from the root עָמַם No. 1). It is only found in const. state עֻמַּת (once Ecclesiastes 5:15); elsewhere לְעֻמַּת; with suff. לְעֻמָּתִי, once לְעֻמּוֹת Ezekiel 45:7 prep. i.q. עִם.

(a) at, by, near, Exodus 25:27, 28:27.

(b) against, Ezekiel 3:8.

(c) over against, 1 Chronicles 26:16.

(d) equally with, even as (i.q. עִם No. 1, e), 1 Chronicles 24:31, 26:12 Ecclesiastes 7:14 whence Ecclesiastes 5:15, כָּל־עֻמַּת “altogether in the same way, as” (compare כָּל־עוֹד Job 27:3). With two prefixes מִלְּעֻמַּת near, 1 Kings 7:20.

(2) [Ummah], pr.n. of a town in the tribe of Asher; only found Joshua 19:30.
