מֵידְבָא (“water of rest;” see the root דָּבָא ), [Medeba], pr. name of a town of the Reubenites, situated in a plain of the same name, Numbers 21:30; Joshua 13:9, 16 Joshua 13:16; 1 Chronicles 19:7 afterwards reckoned as part of Moab (Isaiah 15:2); Greek Μηδαβά, Μηδάβη, Μήδαυα, see 1Ma_9:36 Jos. Archæol. xiii. 1, § 4; ix. § 1; Euseb. h. v. Relandi Palæstina, p. 893. Ruins still called Mádaba were found by Seetzen and Burckhardt (Travels in Syr. p. 625).
