Pu`al Participle מְאוּזָּל Ezekiel 27:19 (RV yarn, compare Aramaic עזל spin but) read מֵאוּזָל, see below אוּזָל below, so ᵐ5ᵑ6 Hi Sm Co.
אֲזַל verb go, go off (Biblical Hebrew: [rare]); —
Pe`al Perfect 3 masculine singular ׳א Daniel 2:24 + (אֲזַל֑ Daniel 2:17; Daniel 6:20); 3 plural אֲזַ֫לוּ Ezra 4:23; I plural אֲוַלְנָא Ezra 5:8; Imperative masculine singular (אֲֿחֵת) ֵאוֶל Ezra 5:15 (for אֱזַל K§ § 15 e); 38,1 c)); — 1 go, go off, with ל location Daniel 2:17; Daniel 6:19; Daniel 6:20; Ezra 4:23 (+ עַל person), Ezra 5:8; go and say Daniel 2:24, go (and) put Ezra 5:15.
אָזַל fut. יֵאזַל (whence תֵּזְלִי for תֵּאזְלי, Jeremiah 2:36), properly, if I judge aright, to roll, rollen, hence
(1) to spin, from the idea of rolling. So in the Talmud אָזַל, whence אַזְלָאָה weaver, Arab. غزل Conj. I. IV., غَزْلُ something spun; Syr. and Ch. ܥܙܰܠ id., comp. the kindred נְזַל to spin and to flow, both from the idea of rolling. See Pual.
(2) [“intrans. to roll off, i.e.”] to go away, to depart, especially quickly, as if fortrollen, fortfahren, compare the Germ. fich trollen; Eng. to troll, to trowl. [These supposed English illustrations given by Gesenius do not make the matter much clearer.] Gr. νέω, neo, and med. νέομαι to depart, to flee. So in Ch. and Syr. In Arabic we may compare عزل to separate, to take away. Proverbs 20:14 (followed by a dat. pleon. לוֹ, like הָלַךְ לוֹ); Jeremiah 2:36. Metaph. to fail, as water, Job 14:11 food, 1 Samuel 9:7 strength, Deuteronomy 32:36.
Pual part. מְאוּזָּל what is spun, yarn, thread, Gefponnenes, Gefpinnft, Garn, Ezekiel 27:19.
