II. בְּתוּאֵל proper name, of a location in Simeon 1 Chronicles 4:30 = בְּתוּל Joshua 19:4; כְּסִיל Joshua 15:30; בֵּיתְאֵל 1 Samuel 30:27 (see above); yet compare Lag BN 64; site unknown.

(2) of a place (pr. “tarrying of God,” from بتا i.q. בּוּת), a town in the tribe of Simeon, 1 Chronicles 4:30, which in Joshua 19:4 is written contr. בְּתוּל. In Joshua 15:30, in the same series of cities (as to this remarkable corruption see Relandi Palæstina, p. 152, 153), there is found כְּסִיל.
