spring, leap, bound, of young horses, αἱ δ' ὅτε μὲν σκιρτῷεν ἐπὶ ζείδωρον ἄρουραν. ἀλλ' ὅτε δὴ ς. ἐπ' εὐρέα νῶτα θαλάσσης Il. 20.226, 228; πῶλοι ἐσκίρτων φόβῳ E. The word is found in a papyrus dealing with the heavenly bodies, P Par 19bis .13 (A.D. 138) (P. 237) Κρόνος ἐν Ὑδροχῷ, μοιρῶν Γ ̄, λεπτῶν Η ̄, ἐν τῷ Β ̄ στηριγμῷ, ἰδίῳ οἴκῳ, ὁρίοις Ἑρμοῦ. For στήριγμα cf. P Lond 121.509 (iii/A.D.) (= I. p. 100) ὁ ἐπὶ τοῦ ἁγίου στηρίγματος σεαυτὸν ἱδρύσας.
