κτῆμα may mean ";a piece of landed property"; of any kind, ";a field,"; as in Acts 5:1 (cf. 3 χωρίον). Thus BGU II. 530.21 (i/A.D.)(= Selections, p. 61) τὸ κτῆμα ἀγεώργητόν ἐστιν refers to an allotment that was lying neglected and untilled, while the word is frequently applied to a ";vineyard,"; e.g. P Giss I. 79iii. 11 (c. A.D. 117) οὗ χ [άρι ]ν ̣ οὐδ [εὶ ]ς ἀθυμεῖ πωλεῖν κτῆμα, P Oxy IV. 707.25 (c. A.D. 136) τὰς τοῦ κτήματος καὶ πωμαρίου πλάτας, ";the walls (?) of the vineyard and orchard"; (Edd.), and with the adj. P Ryl II. 157.4 (A.D. 135) οὐσιακ [ὸ ]ν ἀμπελικὸν κτῆμα, ";the domain-land vineyard"; (Edd.). For the plur., as in Mark 10:22, see ib. 76.11 (late ii/A.D.) a deposition regarding the division of certain property—τὴν διαίρεσιν τῶν κτημάτων —";according to households and not individuals"; (κατ᾽ οἶκον καὶ μὴ κατὰ πρόσωπον), and ib. I. 28.182 (iv/A.D.) δεσπότης ἔσται πολλῶν ἀγαθῶν καὶ κτημάτων, ";he will be master of many blessings and possessions."; The dim. κτημάτιον may be illustrated from P Tebt II. 616 (ii/A.D.) ἐπιμέλεσθαι τ [οῦ ] κτηματίου τῶν καθηκόντων ἔργων, and the collective κτῆσις from P Ryl II. 145.7 (A.D. 38) ζυτοποιὸς τῆς κτήσεως, ";a brewer on the estate."; For the adj. κτηματικός cf. P Oxy I. 136.18 (A.D. 583) γεωργῶν ́ κτηματικῶν τε καὶ κωμητικῶν καὶ ἐξωτικῶν, ";labourers both on the estate and in the villages and adjacent property"; (Edd.), and for the word κτηματώνης, ";the purchaser of an article,"; which is confined to the inscrr., see Deissmann BS p. 147.
