If LXX Genesis 4:24 is to be taken as determining the meaning of the phrase ἑ. ἑπτά in Matthew 18:22 (see Proleg. p. 98 and cf. Moulton Gr. ii. § 72 D), the omission of the connecting ";and"; in the LXX as compared with the Heb. וְשִׁבְעָה שִׁבְע still leaves it uncertain whether we are to understand 70 + 7 or 70 × 7 : see McNeile ad Mt l.c. The phrase is found with the latter meaning in Test. xii. patr. Benj. vii. 4.
