ἑβομηκοντα, οἱ, αἱ, τά (from Herodotus down), seventy: Acts 7:14 (here Relz ἑβδομηκονταπεντε); ; οἱ ἑβδομήκοντα (ἑβδομήκοντα δύο, L brackets WH brackets), the seventy disciples whom Jesus sent out in addition to the twelve apostles: Luke 10:1, 17. (B. D. American edition, under the phrase Seventy Disciples.)

In P Flor III. 382i. 3 (A.D. 222–3) exemption from public services is granted τοῖς ἑ [β ]δ ̣ο ̣μ ̣η ̣κ ̣ο ̣ντα ἔτη β ̣ε ̣β ̣ι ̣ω ̣κόσι, an equivalent to our old-age pensions : cf. ib.ii. 55 ]γὼ κατὰ τὰς προκειμένας θείας διατάξεις ἤδη ὑπὲρ ἑβδο ̣μήκοντα [ἔτ ]η βεβιωκὼς καὶ αὐτὸς τῆς ἀναπαύσεως ̣ δ ̣ιά σου τοῦ κυρίου τ ̣υχεῖν ̣ . . . On the number ";seventy"; bearing ";not infrequently an approximate sense,"; see König in Hastings’ DB iii. p. 563. MGr ἑβδομήντα.
