II. [עֹ֫פֶל] noun masculine 1 Samuel 6:4 tumour; — only plural Kt (בָּ)עֳפָלִים Deuteronomy 28:27; 1 Samuel 5:6,9,12; construct עָפְלֵי 1 Samuel 6:4; suffix עָפְלֵיכֶם 1 Samuel 6:5; Qr in all (ב)טְחֹרִים, טְחֹרֵי, טְחֹרֵיכֶם, see [ טְחוֺר].
עֹפֶל m.
(1) a hill, an acclivity, Isaiah 32:14; Micah 4:8 with the art. הָעֹפֶל [Ophel], pr.n. of a hill to the east of mount Zion, which was surrounded and fortified by a separate wall, 2 Kings 5:24 [this refers to some other place], 2 Chronicles 27:3, 33:14 Nehemiah 3:27, 11:21 compare Jos. Bell. Jud., vi. 6, § 3.
(2) a tumour, plur. עפלים (read עֳפָלִים) Deuteronomy 28:27; 1 Samuel 5:6. seqq. כתיב, used of tumours on the anus. (Arab. عفَلُ tumor in ano virorum, vel in pudendis mulierum, see Schrœderi Origg. Hebr., cap. iv. p. 54, 55. H. Alb. Schultens ad Meidanii Prov., p. 23). In קרי there is instead טְחֹורִים, which see.
