Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נְחשֶׁת comm. (m. Ezekiel 1:7; Daniel 10:6 f. 1 Chronicles 18:8); with suff. נְחֻשְׁתֵּךְ.

(1) brass, χαλκός, i.e. copper, especially as hardened and tempered, and, like steel, used for weapons and other cutting instruments, Genesis 4:22; Exodus 26:11, 37 Exodus 26:37, and frequently. Metaph. Jeremiah 6:28, “they are all brass and iron,” i.e. ignoble, impure, like base metal.

(2) any thing made of brass.

(a) money, Ezekiel 16:36, יַעַן הִשָּׁפֵךְ נְחֻשְׁתֵּךְ Vulg. quia effusum est œs tuum.

(b) a fetter, or bond of brass, Lamentations 3:7 especially dual נְחֻשְׁתַּיִם Judges 16:21; 2 Samuel 3:34, double bonds.
