1170) uh (ההתה HhTh) AC: Measure CO: Cord AB: Miss: Cords are used for binding as well as measuring. A cord is also used as measuring device by placing knots incrementally. The cord is stretched between the two points to measure and the knots are counted.

A) uh (ההתה HhTh) AC: Measure CO: ? AB: Sin: When shooting an arrow or other object to a target, the distance that one misses is measured with a cord. The wrong actions of one are also measured against the correct action.

 חוּט noun masculine Joshua 2:18 thread, cord, line (Late Hebrew id.; Arabic , Aramaic , חוּטָא) — ׳ח absolute Genesis 14:23 2t.; construct Joshua 2:18+ 3t.; —

1 thread, as easily broken Judges 16:12 (simile); as composing a rope or cord; הַשָּׁנִי הַזֶּה׳תִּקְוַת ח Joshua 2:18 (JE) this cord of scarlet thread (literally the cord of this thread of scarlet); probably also מִחוּט וְעַד שְׂרוֺךְ נַעַל Genesis 14:23 from a thread to a sandal-thong; in simile ׳כְּחהַשָּׁנִי Song of Solomon 4:3 like a thread of scarlet are thy lips.

2 cord, הַמְּשֻׁלָּשׁ׳הַח Ecclesiastes 4:12 a three-fold cord.

3 line, as measure of length 1 Kings 7:15 and a line of twelve cubits surrounded (i.e. would surround) it (compare קָו 1 Kings 7:23), so Jeremiah 52:21.

חוּט Chald. to sew, to sew together, Syriac ܚܘܽܛ, Arab. خاط Med. Ye id.

Aphel, to repair a wall, Ezra 4:12 comp. רָפָא. Hence

חוּט m.

(1)  a thread, a line, Judges 16:12; Ecclesiastes 4:12; Song of Solomon 4:3. A proverbial saying, Genesis 14:23, מִחוּט וְעַד שְׂרוֹךְ נַעַל “neither a thread nor a shoe-latchet,” i.e. not even the least or the most worthless thing. Similar is the Latin neque hilum (Lucr. iii. 784; Enn. ap. Varr. L. L. iv. 22), for neque filum, whence nihil. A similar proverb is used in Arabic لا فتيلا, see Hamasa, Schultens, p. 404.

(2) a rope, cord [collect. of No. 1 in Thes.], Joshua 2:18.
