lit. ";firm,"; ";solid,"; is frequently applied to grain in the sense of ";hard,"; i.e. ";ripe"; : P Oxy IV. 836 (i/B.C.) πυρὸν στερεὸν νέον καθαρὸν α ̣̀δ ̣ο ̣λ ̣ον, ib. XIV. 1629.12 (B.C. 44) πυροῦ. . στερεοῦ ἀκρίθου, ";of hard wheat unmixed with barley"; (Edd.). In P Reinach 8.5 (B.C. 113–112) τοῦ προγεγραμμένου πυροῦ στερεοῦ, the editor renders στερεοῦ by ";compacte"; : cf. ib. 9.20 (B.C. 112).

In P Lond 1204.19 (B.C. 113) (= III. p. 11) πῆχυν στερεοῦ denotes a measurement which is understood by the editors to be akin to the πῆχυς οἰκοπεδικός = 100 square cubits or 1/100 of an aroura.
