1. the augm. εὐηργ - is sts. found, esp. in codd., as impf. εὐηργέτουν X. Ap. 26: aor. εὐηργέτησα Ar. Pl. 835, v.l. in Din. 1.16, but ηὐεργέτησα Lys. 9.14: pf. εὐηργέτηκα v.l. in Lycurg. 140: pf. Pass. εὐηργέτημαι X. Mem. 2.2.3, SIG 798.5 (Cyzicus, i A. D.), but Inscrr. and Pap. have εὐεργέτηκα IG 22.573 (iv B. C.), εὐεργέτημαι PLond. 2.169.26 (i A. D.), εὐεργετήθην IG 7.2808 (Hyettus, iii A. D.), ηὐεργετημένοι PTeb. 326.16 (iii A. D.): — to be a benefactor, S. Ph. 670, IG 22.786, etc.; [ Ἰησοῦς] διῆλθεν -τῶν Acts 10:38.

Michel 468.14 (mid. ii/B.C.) ἵνα οὖν καὶ ὁ δῆμος φαίνηται χάριν ἀποδιδοὺς τοῖς εὐεργετοῦσιν αὐτόν, Priene 105.46 (c. B.C. 9) εὑ [ρήμασιν ἰδί ]οις εὐεργέτησεν (for form, cf. Wisdom of Solomon 11:1-26(6)) τὴν ἐπαρχήαν. In OGIS 666.2 (A.D. 54–68) an Egyptian inscr. records how the Emperor Nero—ὁ ἀγαθὸς δαίμων τῆς οἰκουμένης, σὺν ἅπασιν οἷς εὐεργέτησεν ἀγαθοῖς τὴν Αἴγυπτον. . . ἔπεμψεν ἡμεῖν Τιβέριον Κλαύδιον Βάλβιλλον ἡγεμόνα, after which the inscr. mentions this man’s χάριτας καὶ εὐεργεσίας : cf. also Cagnat IV. 852 Ἀνίκιον Ἄσπρον, τὸν ὑπατικὸν καὶ κτίστην, ἀνθ᾽ ὧν εὐεργέτηται ἀνέθ (ηκαν). From the papyri cf. such a passage as P Ryl II. 119.36 (A.D. 54–67) ὧν χάριν ἀξιοῦμεν περὶ πάντων τούτων διαλαβεῖν ὅπως τύχωμεν τῶν παρὰ σοῦ δικαίων καὶ ὦμεν εὐεργετημένοι, ";therefore we beg you to give a decision on all these points, so that we may obtain our rights from you and be relieved"; (Edd.). The phrase ἵν᾽ ὦμεν εὐεργετημένοι is very common at the close of petitions, as in P Tebt II. 302.31 (A.D. 71–2), 326.16 (c. A.D. 266) ηὐεργετημένοι, al. See also P Thead 20.13 (iv/A.D.) ἀξιοῦμεν τὸ νῦν τὴν σὴν ἀνδρίαν εὐεργε [τῆσαι ἡ ]μᾶς κα [τ ]ὰ τοὺς νόμους.
