Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

קָפַץ fut. יִקְפֹּץ (i.q. קָמַץ, קָפַז), to contract, to shut, as the mouth, Job 5:16; Psalms 107:42 the hand (i.e. to be illiberal), Deuteronomy 15:7 trop. mercy, Psalms 77:10.

Niphal, to be gathered, sc. to one’s ancestors, i.q. נֶאֱסַף i.e. to be dead, Job 24:24. Compare قَفَزَ and قَفَسَ to be dead. Schultens, on Job loc. cit. places the primary signification of these words in leaping, springing (see Piel); and this, he remarks, is transferred to sudden death.

Piel, to leap, to spring, compare קָפַז, Song of Solomon 2:8. (Ch. id.)
