פָּזַר to disperse, i.q. בָּזַר, בָּדַר in Kal only found in part. pass. Jeremiah 50:17.
Piel, i.q. Kal, to disperse, e.g. a people, Psalms 89:11 any one’s bones, Psal. 53:6. Jeremiah 3:13, וַתְּפַזְּרִי אֶת־דְּרָכַיִךְ “thou hast scattered thy ways,” i.e. hast wandered about.
(2) to bestow largely, to be liberal, Psalms 112:9; Proverbs 11:24.

I. פַּח m. pl. פַּחִים const. פַּחֵי Proverbs 22:5; Exodus 39:3, with Dag. forte impl. like אַחִים; (from the root פָּחַח ).
(1) a net, a snare, Job 18:9 especially of a fowler, Amos 3:5; Proverbs 7:23; Ecclesiastes 9:12 so called from its being spread out. (Arab. فَخُّ and فَخْتُ, Syr. ܦܰܚܐܳ id. To this agrees also Gr. παγίς, πάγη, which however is derived from the root of that language πήγνυμι). To lay snares, i.e. to plot, to devise against any one, is נָתַן פַּח Psalms 119:110 טָמַן פּ׳ Psalms 140:6, 141:9 Jeremiah 18:22 יָקשׁ פּ׳ Psalms 141:9. Metaph. that by which any one falls, i.e. is led to destruction. Comp. מוֹקֵשׁ No. 2, and Schult. on Job, p. 137, 138; Joshua 23:13; Psalms 69:23 Isai. 8:14 hence destruction, ruin, Isai. 24:17 Jeremiah 48:43. See פַּחַת.
(2) פַּחִים thin plates, Exodus 39:3; Numbers 17:3.
(3) Psalms 11:6 פַּחִים snares (Schlingen), lightning, bending itself like a snare (a noose) or serpent (fich) fchlingende, fchlängelnde Bliße). Compare سِاْسِاَةُ a sheet of lightning diffused over the clouds, and Διὸς μάστιξ, used of lightning (the cause of this figure however is different), Il. xiii. 812; see J. D. Michaëlis on Lowth de Sacra Poësi, p. 34, ed. Lips. and on the other hand, Olshausen, Emendationen zum A. T. p. 9, who conjectured this to be פֶּחָם hot coals, i.e. lightnings.
II. פַּח with suff. פֶּחָם Nehemiah 5:14, i.q. פֶּחָה (which see), the governor of a province.
