שֶׁרֶץ m., collect.

(1)  reptiles, Genesis 7:21; Leviticus 5:2, 11:29. Verse 20, “winged reptiles (שֶׁרֶץ הָעוֹף) that walk on four” (feet), are bats (not crickets which have six legs, though they are said to use only four of them in walking), Leviticus 21:23; Deuteronomy 14:19.

(2) smaller aquatic animals, Genesis 1:20 more fully שֶׁרֶץ הַמַּיִם Leviticus 11:10.
