שִׁפְחָה f. famula (as if a noun of unity, one of a family), a maid-servant, Genesis 16:1, 29:24. As to its difference from אָמָה, see 1 Samuel 25:41, לְשִׁפְחָה הִנֵּה אֲמָֽתְךָ “behold, thy handmaid is a servant,” i.e. I am thy household servant to wait on thee.
