proper name, of a location in ׳נַ֫חַלשׂ Judges 16:4 (properly Wady of choice vines); — ᵐ5 Σωρηχ[κ]; probably Wady ‚urâr (GASm Geogr. 218 ff.), on north side of which is ruin Sûrîk, 3/4hour west of ‚ur±ah ( Zor±ah), Survey iii. 53 GFM on the passage.

(1) a shoot, a tendril (from the root שָׂרַק No. I; compare שְׂרוּקִּים); specially a nobler kind of vine, according to Abulwalid, growing in Syria, Arab. سريق and سوريق, now called in Morocco Serki, Pers. ىشمش Kishmish, with small berries, roundish, and of a dark colour; with soft and hardly perceptible stones. (2) [Sorek], pr.n. of a valley, between Ashkelon and Gaza, probably so called from this kind of vine, Judges 16:4.
