פְּלֹנִי
(1) such a one, quidam, ὁ δεῖνα (pr. Arab. فُلاَنُ; Syr. ܦܠܳܢ distinguished, defined; one whom I point out, as it were, with the finger, but do not name; from the unused noun פָּלוֹן; root פָּלָה to distinguish); always joined with אַלְמֹנִי (pr. one who is nameless): Used or persons, Ruth 4:1, in the vocative, שְׁבָה־פֹּה פְּלֹנִי אַלְמֹנִי “sit down here; ho! such a one;” Gr. ὦ οὗτος; Arab. يَا فُلاَ, يَا فُلُ, يا هذا. Used of things, 1 Samuel 21:3, אֶל־מְקוֹם פְּלֹנִי אַלְמֹנִי “to such a certain place;” 2 Kings 6:8. From these two words is compounded פַּלְמֹנִי Daniel 8:13.
(2) [Pelonite], Gent. n., from a place otherwise unknown, פָּלוֹן 1 Chronicles 11:27, 36 1 Chronicles 11:36.
