Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
עֵז pl. עִזִּים f.
(1) a she-goat. (Syr. ܥܙܶܐܳ; Arab. عَنْزُ; Phœnic. ἄζα, Steph. Byz. The same word is found in the Indo-Germanic languages, as the Sansc. adsha, a he-goat; adsĥ, a she-goat; Goth. ǵitsa; Anglo-Sax. ĝt; Germ. Geis, with a harder form, Gems, chamois; Gr. αἴξ, αἰγός; also the Turkish gieik, ghieizi; comp. Grimm, Deutsche Gram. iii. 328.) גְּדִי עִזִּים a kid of goats, Genesis 27:9. שֵׂה עִזִּים a goat, i.e. the goat (ein Stück Ziegenvieh), [an individual for the species], Deuteronomy 14:4.
(2) pl. עִזִּים goats’ hair, Exodus 26:7, 36:14 1 Samuel 19:13.
