נָקָם m. and נְקָמָה, with suff. נִקְמָתִי, plur. נְקָמוֹת f.
(1) vengeance, revenge, Deuteronomy 32:35. Followed by a נִקְמֵת יְיָ the vengeance which Jehovah takes, Jeremiah 50:15 elsewhere objectively, as נִקְמַת דָּם vengeance for slaughter, Psalms 79:10; Jeremiah 50:28, הֵיכָלוֹ נִקְמַת “vengeance for his temple;” compare Jeremiah 51:36. To take vengeance on any one is הֵשִׁיב נָקָם לְ Deuteronomy 32:41, 43 Deuteronomy 32:43 לָקַח נ׳ Isaiah 47:3 followed by מִן Jeremiah 20:10 עָשָׂה נְקָמוֹת בְּ Psalms 149:7; Ezekiel 25:17 followed by אֵת Micah 5:14 נָתַן נִקְמָתוֹ בְּ Ezekiel 25:14; Numbers 31:3. On the other hand נָתַן נְקָמֹת לְ Psalms 18:48 and מִן, עָשָׂה נְקָמוֹת לִפְ׳ Judges 11:36 to give or do vengeance for any one, so as to satisfy him.
