נָבַע to bubble forth, to gush out (Ch. Syr. Arab. نبع and نبغ id. The primary syllable is בע, بغ like בק imitating the sound or murmur of boiling or bubbling; compare בּוּעַ, בַּעְבַּע, בָּעָה). Proverbs 18:4 נַחַל נֹבֵעַ “a gushing stream.”
Hiphil הִבִּיעַ
(1) to pour out, to gush forth with. Proverbs 1:23, אַבִּיעָה לָכֶם רוּחִי “I will pour out upon you my Spirit;” especially used of words Proverbs 15:2, 28 Proverbs 15:28, פִּי רְשָׁעִים יַבִּיעַ רָעוֹת “the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things;” whence absol. to belch out wicked words, Psalms 59:8, 94:4.
(2) to publish, to tell (compare נָבָא, which has sprung from this root by softening the letter א; also נָטַף), Psalms 19:3, 78:2 145:7 (Syr. ܢܒܰܥ Aph. to publish [“Arab. نبخ”]).
(3) to cause to boil up, i.e. to cause to ferment and putrify. Ecclesiastes 10:1, “dead flies יַבְאִישׁ יַבִּיעַ cause the ointment to stink and putrefy.”
