מֻרְדָּף noun [masculine] persecution (si vera lectio) (formed like
Hoph`al Participle); — Isaiah 14:6, but ᵑ7 Thes and most מִרְדַּת q. v.
מֻרְדָּף masc. Isaiah 14:6 if the reading be correct, part. Hoph. from the root רָדַף, subst. persecution. But I fully agree with Doöderlein, that for מררף we should read מִרְדַּת (dominion) from the root רָדָה. See my Comment. on the place. [Conjectures, however probable they may seem, are very dangerous when applied to God’s inspired Scripture, and this word as it stands yields a suitable meaning.]
