Brown-Driver-Briggs Expanded Definition
 ַ˜מעַדְיָה proper name, masculine a priest of Zerubbabel's time according to Nehemiah 12:5; ᵐ5. א Μααδιας, ᵐ5 L Μαασιας; apparently = מוֺעַדְיָה Nehemiah 12:17, ᵐ5 L Μασαι (etymology dubious; Thes puts below עדה = ornamentum Jovae, but properly ׳מֹע = ׳מוֺע, √ יעד = convenius Jovae).

מֹעֵד see מוֺעֵד below יעד.

[מַעֲדָן], מַעֲדַנִּים see עדן.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

מַעַדְיָה (for מַעַדְיָהּ “ornament of Jehovah”), [Maadiah], pr.n. m. Nehemiah 12:5 for which there is מוֹעַדְיָה (“festival of Jehovah”), verse 17 Nehemiah 12:17. The two places will perfectly accord, if the first be read מֹעַדְיָה.

I. מַעֲדָן only in plur. מַ821ע֫֒דַנִּים, מַעֲדָנִים Jeremiah 51:34 [In Thes. this reference is removed to עֵדֶן; The form actually occurring in the passage is מֵֽעֲדָנָי֑]; and מַעֲדַנּוֹת 1 Samuel 15:32 (from the root עָדַן).

(1) delight, joy, Proverbs 29:17. Adv. with joy, joyfully, cheerfully, 1 Samuel 15:32.

(2) delicate food, dainties, Genesis 49:20; Lamentations 4:5.

II. מַעֲדַנּוֹת m. bonds; by transposition of the letters for מַעֲנַדּוֹת, from the root עָנַד to bind. Job 38:31, מַעֲדַנּוֹת כִּימָה “the bands of the Pleiades;” see כִּימָה.
