מַלְמָד or מַלְמֵד m., once constr. st. Judges 3:31, מַלְמַד הַבָּקָר “an ox-goad;” Gr. βουπλήξ, Il. vi. 135, βούκεντρον, see Schötten, De Stimulo Boum, Francof. 1774, and Rosenm. Morgenland, on Jud. loc. cit. Root לָמַד No. 1, to correct, to chastise.
