Hiph`il make bent, press or bend together (Late Hebrew Hiph`il id.; כָּפַשׁ furnish a vessel with a bent rim, כּוֺפֶשׁ a broad-rimmed vessel; Arabic have bent or crooked feet; Tel Amarna kappâšu, sole of foot Dl HWB 348 (doubtfully), but infinitive from כבשׁ according to Wkl Tel Am. Letters, Vocab.); —
Hiph`il Perfect 3 masculine singular suffix בָּאֵפֶרהִכְמִּישַׁנִי Lamentations 3:16 he made me cower in the ashes.
כָּפַשׁ prob. i.q. כָּבַשׁ, كَبِسَ I., IV., to cover over with any thing.
Hiphil, Lamentations 3:16, הִכְפִּישַׁנִי בָּאֵפֶר “he has covered me over with ashes.” Used by the Talmudists of a heaped measure, also of the Jewish church bowed down amongst ashes, or covered over with ashes (מיכשׁפת באפר Ber. Rabba, § 75). Ch. he hath humbled me in ashes; LXX. indeed and Vulg. ἐψώμισέ με σποδό́ν, cibavit me cinere, a sense gathered from the context because verbs of food have preceded.
