כְּנָת unused in sing.; plur. כְּנָווֹת Ezra 4:7 prop. cognomen (from the root כָּנָה, which see); meton. one who bears the same cognomen as another, i.e. performs the same function, is subject to the same king; σύνδουλος, colleague, associate in office. The form כְּנָת is for כְּנָאת, כְּנָאֶת, and the plural is formed in the same manner as מְנָאוֹת, מְנָיוֹת from מְנָת; see Lehrg. p. 607. To this answers Syriac ܟܢܳܬܳܐ, plur. ܟܰܢܘܳܬܐܳ i.e. σύνδουλος, σύνδουλοι. As to the feminine form of nouns of office, see Lehrg. p. 468.
