 [כָּזַב] verb lie, be a liar (Arabic ; Aramaic כְּדַב, id. chiefly Pa`el; Late Hebrew כָּזַב) —

Qal Participle כָּלהָֿאָדָם כֹּזֵב Psalm 116:11 (compare כָּזָּב Psalm 62:10).

Niph`al Perfect 3 feminine singular תֹּחַלְתּוֺ נִכְזָ֑בָה Job 41:1 his hope has been made deceptive, i.e. been shewn to be so; 2 masculine singular consecutive וְנִכְזָ֑בְתָּ Proverbs 30:6 lest he convict thee and thou be proven a liar.

Pi`el Perfect 3 masculine singular כִּזֵּב Micah 2:11; Imperfect 3 masculine singular יְכַזֵּב Habakkuk 2:3; Proverbs 14:5; וִיכַזֵּב Numbers 23:19, etc.; Infinitive construct suffix כַזֶּבְכֶם (בְּ) Ezekiel 13:19; —

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

כָּזַב in Kal part. כֹּזֵב Psalms 116:11 of more frequent occurrence in

Piel כִּזֵּב to lie, Job 6:28, 34:6 Proverbs 14:5. (Arab. كذب.) Followed by לְ to lie to any one, to deceive him. Psalms 78:36, 89:36, “shall I lie unto David?” i.e. break my fidelity (comp. Numbers 23:19). Ezekiel 13:19, followed by בְּ id. 2 Kings 4:16. Metaph. applied to water quickly drying up and disappointing the traveller, comp. אַכְזָב.

Hiphil, to reprove of lying, to convict of falsehood, Job 24:25.

Niphal, pass. of Hiphil, to be proved false, or deceitful, Job 41:1.

The derivatives follow, except אַכְזָב, אַכְזִיב.
