יִצְחָק (“sporting,” as if it were part. fut. from the root צָחַק, to which etymology allusion is made, Genesis 17:17, 19 Genesis 17:19, 18:12, seq.; 21:6 26:8 ), pr.n. Isaac (LXX. Ἰσαάκ), a patriarch, the son of Abraham and Sarah, Genesis 21:28. In the poetical books it is sometimes written יִשְׂחָק (Syr. ܐܝܺܣܚܩܳ, Arab. إِسْحَق) Psalms 105:9; Jeremiah 33:26; Amos 7:9, 16 and in Am. loc. cit. poetically used for the nation of Israel, i.q. יִשְׂרָאֵל.
