Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

חָכַם fut. יֶחְכַּם to be wise, to become wise. (Arab. حَكَمَ to judge, hence to rule, حَكْمُ judgment, حَكَمُ and حاكِمُ a judge, Aram. to know, more rarely, to be wise. Indeed the primary power of this word, as I understand it, is that of judging, so that it is kindred to the root חָקַק.) Proverbs 6:6, 23:19 Ecclesiastes 2:19; 1 Kings 5:11; Job 32:9, etc.

Piel, to make wise, to teach wisdom, Job 35:11; Psalms 105:22.

Pual part. made wise, learned, Proverbs 30:24 of an enchanter, Psalms 58:6.

Hiphil i.q. Piel Psalms 19:8.

Hithpael

(1) to seem wise to oneself, to be wise in one’s own eyes, Ecclesiastes 7:16.

(2) to show oneself wise, followed by לְ to deceive, Exodus 1:10. (Compare the Greek σοφός, cunning.)

The derived nouns all follow [except חַכִּים, and pr.n. תַּחְכְּמֹנִי].
