 חֵךְ noun masculine palate, roof of mouth, gums (Late Hebrew id.; Aramaic חִכָּא Arabic palate, roof of mouth, jaws, lower part of mouth, lower jaw of horse, mouth, etc. Lane659 Dozy i. 332); — absolute ׳ח Job 12:11; Job 34:3; suffix חִכִּי Proverbs 8:7 6t., חִכְּךָ Hosea 8:1, חִכֶּ֑ךָ Ezekiel 3:26; Proverbs 24:13; chiefly in poetry, especially Wisdom Literature: — חִכֵךְ Song of Solomon 7:10, חִכּוֺ Lamentations 4:4 2t., חִכָּהּ Proverbs 5:3, חִכָּם Job 29:10; — palate, roof of mouth:

a.אֶלחִֿכְּךָ שֹׁפָר Hosea 8:1 a trumpet to thy palate! Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

חֵךְ with suff. חִכִּי m. the palate with the corresponding lower part of the mouth, the internal part of the mouth, the jaws, like מַלְקֹחַיִם. (Arab. حَنكَُ the palate and the lower part of the mouth answering to it, beak, Syr. ܚܢܶܒܐܳ palate. Root חָנַךְ No. 1.) Whence Job 20:13, בְּתוֹךְ חִכּוֹ “in the midst of his mouth.” Job 33:2.

(a) for the organ of taste, Job 12:11 comp. Job 6:30; Psalms 119:103.

(b) for the organ of speech. Proverbs 8:7, כִּי אֱמֶת יֶהְגֶּה חִכִּי “for my palate shall speak the truth.” Job 31:30, “for I have not suffered my palate to sin;” compare Hosea 8:1 “(Put) the trumpet to thy palate” (mouth). Comp. חַכָּה.- Song of Solomon 7:10, comp. Song of Solomon 5:16, the palate seems to be delicately put for the moisture of the mouth perceived in kisses; comp. Lette ad Amrulk. Moall. p. 180.
