2 a tribe of, or near, the Philistines Joshua 13:2 read probably הֵגִּוְרִי We and Dr (on 1 Samuel 27:8), Mey ZAW i. 126 n GFM Judges 1:29n., also 1 Samuel 27:8, but deleted ᵐ5 (not ᵐ5 L) compare We Dr; read possibly אשׁורי Hom Aufsätze i. (1892), 9; 2 Samuel 2:9 read ׳הגּ for האשׁורי.

גְּשׁוּרִי Geshurite, Gent. n.

(1) of a people living at the foot of Hermon, near Maachah, to the north of Bashan and Argob, inclosed within the boundaries of the Holy Land, but not subject to the dominion of the Hebrews, Deuteronomy 3:14; Joshua 12:5, 13:13 1 Chronicles 2:23 compare גְּשׁוּר. A bridge is now found in that region (Jisr beni Yakûb), where the Jordan is crossed.

(2) of a people near the Philistines, Joshua 13:2; 1 Samuel 27:8.
