 גָּזָם noun masculine Amos 4:9 locusts (collective) — absolute גָּזָם Joel 1:4; Joel 2:25; Amos 4:9; — always as devouring, devastating, Joel 1:4 ("" אַרְבֶּה, יֶלֶק, חָסִיל) Joel 2:25 ("" id.); Amos 4:9 alone: your gardens and your vineyards, and your fig-tres and your olive-trees יאֹכַל הַגָּזָם.

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

גָּזָם m. a species of locust, so called from its eating off; like חָסִיל. Joel 1:4, 2:25 Amos 4:9 Targ. זָֽחֲלָא a creeping locust, without wings. Syriac ܡܫܳܘܽܛܐܳ, which Lexicographers explain, a locust without wings; comp. መሰጠ፡ to pull in pieces; مشط to comb, both from the idea of plucking. LXX. κάμπη. Vulg. eruca. [“See Credner on Joel loc. cit.”]
