בִּקְעָה pl. בְּקָעוֹת, f. a valley (as if a cleaving and separation of mountains), opp. to mountains, Deuteronomy 8:7, 11:11 Psalms 104:8 to hills, Isaiah 41:18. But more often a plain country, widely extended plain (LXX. πεδίον), e.g. that in which Babylon was situated, Genesis 11:2 comp. Ezekiel 3:23, 37:1, Ezekiel 37:2 בִּקְעַת הַלְּבָנוֹן “the valley of Lebanon,” used of the plain at the foot of Hermon and Antilibanus, at the rise of Jordan, Joshua 11:17, 12:7 and not the valley between Libanus and Antilibanus, Cœlesyria of Strabo, Ard el Bŭkĉ’ǎ ارض البقا ع (land of vallies) of the Arabs. Other regions are called from towns near them, as בִּקְעַת מְגִדּוֹן 2 Chronicles 35:22 ב׳ יְרֵחוֹ Deuteronomy 34:3. (Syriac ܦܘܰܢܬܐܳ, Arabic بَقيعُ, بُقْعَةُ and بَقْعَةُ id.)
