ὠτάριον —
ὠτάριον, which in the NT (Mark 14:47, John 18:10) is used of ";an ear,"; is found in the papyri = ";handle,"; e.g. BGU III. 781i.15 (i/A.D.) σὺν ποδίοις καὶ ὠταρίοις η ̄, ib.ii. 1 ὠτάρια ἔχοντα σατύρια, et saepius.
ὠτίον —
For this dimin. of οὖς, ";an ear"; (Matthew 26:51, al.), reference may be made to the new Saying of Jesus, P Oxy I. 120 ff. Which restored by White Sayings p. xviii., runs—λέγει Ἰησοῦς · ἀκούεις εἰς τὸ ἓν ὠτίον σου, τὸ δὲ ἕτερον συνέκλεισας.
For other exx. of ὠτίον cf. P Oxy I. 108.17 (meat bill of a cook—A.D. 183 or 215) ὠτίον α ̄, ἄκρον α ̄, νεφρία β ̄, ";1 ear, 1 trotter, 2 kidneys,"; P LeidWvi. 36 (ii/iii A.D.) (= II. p. 101) ἐὰν ἐπίπῃς (l. ἐπείπῃς) ἐπὶ παντὸς πετινοῦ (l. πετεινοῦ) εἰς τὸ ὠτίον, τελευτήσει, and Preisigke 6003.10 (A.D. 316) τοῦ ] ἀριστεροῦ ὠτί [ου. Like ὠτάριον, ὠτίον is used = ";handle,"; as in BGU III. 781i. 3 al. (i/A.D.), and P Oxy XIV. 1658.13 (iv/A.D.) ὠτίον χαλκίου, ";a handle of a kettle"; (Edd.).
